Zero tore a nail yesterday it seems, its hanging off of the toe so its not completely torn off. The toe itself looks a little infected. Is there anything I should put on it? Or anything I should do? Trip to the vet? I imagine he must have done it by climbing the cage bars, which he does quite often. So he's spending a couple days in a big plastic bin with shavings/wheel/house ect. But I don't know what to do about a water dispenser, I put a bowl of water down which he should be able to drink from and I figure if I change it very often he won't be able to get bedding in it. Is this all right for now?

Just leave him be, it is very sore and tender, once the swelling goes down he will remove the rest of his nail, my hamster bear broke his middle finger on his left paw, and i took him to the vet, toar off his name and everything, they told me to leave it alone and he will take care of it, they cant put a cast on a hamsters finger as they can ours...you have to let nature take its course. In a week or so time he will remove the nail by himself, and cleanze the finger. They will be able to move around and drink like they normally do..its just hit swollen and sore..so he will be more careful.
