Last night I though my hamster hab babies :hamster2: , so I did not touch them. later on that night my sister noticed this yellow spot on the belly of the male, it's on his fur. it's a little bit past the middle and more to the right. he has been running around the cage and this morning both of them came out of the house and I saw a baby :D on the side, the male run in the house grabed the baby and took it to the other side of the cage. she ran after him took the baby back (hopefully she won't eat it) then came back and scratched him around a bit. he was trying to sleep in the corner by himself and now it looks like he is back in the house. is this normal?? and what could this yellow spot be?? should i wash him???

Well the yellow spot you are seeing is the campbells dwarf scent gland, and when something happens it turns yellow and lets off smells, my hammie ran around the cage doing the same thing before the babies were born, Ive had my 2 dwarf hammies for quite some time before they had babies so as soon as they had babies i would reach in and rub them, i would not recommend it unless your hammies truely trust you, or they might eat the babies, u can touch them anytime after a week, but i recommend 2 weeks before you touch them, i have been holding mine since they were born but unless the momma or papa hamster trusts u, your going to get bit and attacked and possibly the babies will be killed. So wait for 7 days and look in the house..see how there doing..u might want to look now, because there might be a dead baby that will contaminate the rest of the litter and leave a horrible smell, once starting to decompose...i hope this helps you, if u have anymore questions you can e-mail me at tiamaria@shaw.ca

Mom might get a little nervous but if any babies didnt make it, the contamination could kill the rest if the mother doesnt eat the dead baby.

Normally for every litter over 3 one dies, its a sad fact but true.
