My hamster Suko is about... almost four years old. (in about 2 weeks she will be) Shes very sweet and is a good little girl, but about the past month ive noticed her not being able to see very good.. shes feeling around alot and when i touch her threw the bars she will search for my hand not even bothering to open her eyes.. and when i give her treats she will smell it but take forever to get it out of my hands because she cant see it.. i dont know its hard to explain.. but im pretty sure shes having trouble seeing. I was wondering if this is normal.. she still climbs her cage and goes on her wheel.. but do some hamster as they get older start to lose their sight?

Most things do start to lose their sight as they get older. Try taking her to a vet, as sad as it is, no one can diagnose over the internet (or phone)

that happened with my hamster too fairly soon before she died :crybucket . She just didn't bother to open them any more and wanted to just sleep all the time. 4 years is very old for a hamster, yours has obviously had a long, healthy and (i'm sure) happy life, but old age catches up with them all and you're lucky to have had her so long.

Yea nice job with your hammie thats a really really long time! You must have been taking good care of her! Does she open her eyes at all? If soo, check to see what color they are. If they are like a grey color, its most likely a cateract. If thats what it is she probably is blind.

she is going to rainbow bridge soon i think. My hamster,(passed awayed) Belinda did not open her eyes one day too. She just stayed in her foodbowl and slept, at least i think she was sleeping. Next day, she was dead. I cried!!! She passed away on 7 Jan 2005.Still moaning about her. Hope your Suko can still live on for a few more months? or even...years?
