:hamster3: I was wondering, if two dwarf hamsters mated, how many kids would the mother produce?

Sorry, I just had to bring this thread back to the top cause I know if its bumped to the bottom, it'll never get answered.

I also have another questions. If the siblings of a certain litter that was born, mate with eachother, will the offsprings of that litter be born sick or soon after become sick?

Well my two dwarf hamsters mated and they produced 4 babies, sadly one died so i have 3 healthy babies, the average litter for dwarfs and gerbils are actually the same, it is usually 4 :) Hope this helps!

Actually I think the average litter size for a Campbell's dwarf is about 8. And no NOT let the pups inbreed, that can result in many unhealthy hamsters. Be sure to seperate before they are sexually mature, and you'll have no problems with that! :)

how many weeks will it take for them to become sexually mature...?

Actually-here's a better way of asking- after what amount of time should I seperate them? and can parent and child mate and have children?

3 weeks 21 days..i seperated mine at 16 days old because they were weaned...and eatting solids..

A breeder that I got my dwarf hamsters from told me that he most pups his hamster had at one time was 13. Mine just had babies and she had 4 unless she ate some. :-)

Yea the average is about 6, at least thats what ive been told. And dont let them inter breed because the babies end up with all kinds of birth defects. Ohhh and yes a parent and child can mate and have children, but its not reccomended because of the whole genetic thing. You get defects and sickly babies.

Actually, if u inscest breed dwarves they are fine, its really complicated me and a few other breeders using 3 ways lol were discussing this,,i was saying it is not good, but they explained to me its fine. Even thought id never do it. They state that u get birth defects by doing it to syrian hamsters.

Ahhh ok that would be it then! I have syrians, didnt know we were discussing dwarfs!
