Hi I have a 1 year old betta and its not been eating for a while. It recently had a bacterial infection (some red cut) and I treated it with maracyn 2. Ever since it only eats sometimes. I dont have a filter. I have the one gallon starter betta kit. I do a 100% water change every week and I dont have a heater. How can I get him eating again. I don want him to die. :(

What are you feeding him? From my own bettas I've noticedthey really like the pellet food over the flack foods. You may even try to feed him sun dried shrimp to get him to eat. I give that to my bettas for a treat and they love it. Good luck.

Try freeze-dried bloodworms. And, if you can find some, live food! If it is at all possible get him a 10 or 5 gallon tank with a small filter and a heater. That should perk him up. Is he in a room that is cold or has somewhat large fluctuations in temp? Are you using water conditioner when you do the water changes?

I have a tank of female bettas I treated for ick sometimes last summer and for about two weeks they wouldn't eat anything but freeze dried tubifex worms. Heat is also really really good for sick fish. Move him to a warmer room if you can. I'm not familiar with the 1 gallon starter kit, but if its one of those kritter keeper like things they sell light to put in the top and I've noticed they help to warm the water as well.

Moongodess I feed him freeze dried bloodworms. He dosent eat them though. I think I have the tank that your talking about but I dont have the light. He looks better today. He actually swam up to me when I came. I also Noticed when he is still his fins flap rapidly. Is that normal?

My betta was totally motionless in a 1 gallon tank when the water got really cold..keep in mind the ideal temp is 75 degrees. Get a bigger tank, even a 3 gallon one will make a difference. As far as food goes my betta is very picky too, he hates anything too hard like pellets or even freeze dried stuff. He only eats tetra min crumbs and live food like brine shrimp and mosquito larvae.
