My daughter's hamster has a fairly large tumor on her side. It's about the size of a large gum ball. It doesn't seem to hurt her. She is a little slower than before and can't fit in some of her tunnels. It is growing very quickly. Any idea if I should prepare my daughter for grief and if so how quick do you think it could happen?

Take the hamster to a vet. SOme tumours can be successfully removed.
Years ago I had a hamster which developed a hernia, according to the vet, and he recommended it be left alone as it was benign. She lived a normal active life with it for over a year.
Going to a vet will obviously get you the correct diagnosis and you can consider all the options.
good luck

If you dont trust many vets with hamsters call around first, a good vet will talk to you free, and let u know all options on the phone.

Definiteley find a good vet for the little guy! He will tell you if it can be easily removed and if it's worth the risk of surgery.
How much time she has left depends on the type of tumor and how fast it will grow. I wouldn't worrie yet, the vet it the first stop. If they decide not to do the surgery then I would let the hamster live out the rest of her life at home, or until she starts to be in pain.

I would advise you to go to a vet, and see if you could get it removed.
And about preparing your daughter, just tell her that the hamster has no more pain, and that he is happy and she will see him one day again. I hope you wont have to say this to her any time soon though.
