I received this from a person that has a cat rescue but networks with other rescues.

Notes: The story of Neiko is a sad one. Neiko was surrendered by a backyard breeder a few months ago, along with his constant companion Precious and their daughter Stella. These dogs spent their entire lives living outside 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They were kept in a grassless, rock-strewn yard, with minimal shelter and little to no human interaction. Neiko and Precious, and later their daughter Stella, were bred over and over again and their pups sold, to help their "owner" live in comfort. Think puppy mills don't exist in Connecticut? Guess again.

When these sweet dogs were finally in safety at the shelter we all thought they finally had a chance at a good life. Sadly this was not to be. All three were diagnosed with advanced heartworm. Stella was so fearful and feral she had to be euthanized. Neiko and Precious were successfully treated. Again, just when we thought happiness waited for Neiko and Precious, Precious died in surgery. Her body was worn out from years of poor care and constant, thoughtless breeding and she could no longer go on. She passed over the bridge on January 25. Now there is only Neiko.

Neiko is 5-6 years old. His overall health is now good. Neiko will be neutered prior to adoption. He is a quiet, gentle giant in need of someone to give him the home he's been denied his entire life. A home filled with compassion, warmth, patience and most importantly, love.

If you are interested in adopting Neiko or any of our dogs or cats, online adoption applications are available on our web site home page. Neiko can be found on Pet Finder. (In Connecticut)

Yes it is. If I could take him I would. I just hope that this will help him find a forever home.

i really hope that sweet neiko finds a forever home. Thats a very sad story. It makes me so angry when i hear things like this. I watch animal planet whenever i get a chance (i dont have cable at home) and i always end up sad after animal cops, but i am so glad there are people out there to protect them. i wish they had animal cops where i am, i would be one but they dont even have a shelter here, just a pound. anyway, sorry to ramble! Good luck to neiko, i wish him happiness. wish i could take him but am too far away.

i saw that on TV! oh man those poor dogs were sooo thin! i could hardly look at them! if it makes anyone feel better the breeder got fined quite a bit of money or something. it makes me so sad to think there's people doing stuff like that everywhere. i wish i could take neiko
