watch out for Petsmart

ok well when we got my lil sisters hamster we got him on of the barbed one cage things with like 3 levels, and a day after we put him in we took the cage back because the bars were so wide that he could almost stick his head through them. ok so we took it back and got a new better one, one of the crittertrails and u wanna know what they did with the cage after they knew there was something wrong with it?................they put it back on the shelf for someone else to buy! poor little hammy could get lost whe it climbs out!. so for now on we are going ask questions about the items and check them very thoroughly and suggest u do it 2 if u buy from petsmart.

is the hamster a dwarf?
my friend has two dwarves and she had the same problem when they were still not fully grown - managed to escape through the bars.
I don't think they can do it when they're fully grown but I guess it depends on how much bigger they get.

no actually it was a syrian and yes they can be alittle smallw hen not fully grown but the width of the bars was supposed to be really thin so it couldn't get out and the bars were like really big.
luckily he didn't get out

I'm sure another animal could use it, perhaps your hammy is just on the wee side of things? They can squeeze through some pretty tiny things, and a general rule is that if their head can get through, the rest of them will follow. It's also not really Petsmarts fault, they don't make the products. You can find those products at any pet store, and no matter where you are you should check out the items anyway to make sure they are safe.

Of course, if you have a crittertrail you may want to replace the funnel tubes it comes with, with some SAM tubes. The CT ones are a bit too small for syrians, and I would hate for your hamster to get stuck. :)
