Hi!!

I was wondering if I can put two males in one cage? The reason I was asking was, I went to the humane society and they have two males hammies together in a cage and I wanted to adopt them both.
Is it safe or will I come back from school and one will be bitting or ever worse??? :(
I hope I can adopt them both because they are 1 year and 6 months and I hope I can provide a good home for the rest of their days and well THEY ARE ADORABLE little critters in the risk of being put down!!!
Let me know ASAP before the humane society decided they are too old to give away!

Are they Syrian hamsters? If they are they may just be young...but as they grow older they will kill each other when kept together. If they are dwarfies how ever, its ok! Also, good job on going to the humane society to adopt!

Chances are they are good together, the humane society probably seized them and have had them together since then, go get them and save those babies!

It does depend, like mitch said, if they are syrians, seperate! IF they are syrians, it is EASY to "make" a cage, get a "large" rubbermaid/sterilite bin, drill holes in the top and high on the side, and put all the hammie stuff inside.

I have a 30 inches long, by 14 inches wide by 12 inches tall sterilite bin that I have my black syrian in, and she loves it, she has plenty of room to run and play!

HOWEVER if they are dwarfs, you can still do the same, but keep them together (easy way to get them a HUGE cage for only a few bucks). Also ALL dwarfs are VERY prone to diabetes and may REQUIRE a low sugar homemade diet. (which I'm not sure of as I don't keep dwarfs. I only read up on all hammies at www.hamsterific.com)
