How much are Sugar Gliders? Are they good pets for people with Dogs and Cats?

It depends on the glider you get. If you get a joey that just classic gray, it would probably be $175-200, different color variations are more, with some going up to thousands of dollars. If you get an adult, they are usually cheaper, but harder to bond with, I got my boy when he was around 2 years old, and he was $125 including cage, and my girl was $100 without a cage. Sometimes you'll get lucky and find one for free or very cheap, but a lot of the time, they aren't tame and aren't good for first-time owners.
I have both cats and dogs, and since my dogs are sort of big, I couldn't let them into my room very often, they could accidentally knock over the cage without meaning to. I let my cats into my room during the day, because the gliders are asleep and the cats won't bother them if they can't see them (plus my room gets freezing cold if I leave the door shut, and cold isn't good for them) but at night, I shut my door, my cats love to hunt, and they have jumped on the cage before to try to get at the gliders.
so, if its possible for you to leave the door closed to the room that they're in, it could work, or you would have to watch them very closely. And definately don't try to introduce the gliders with the other animals, no matter how docile they seem, one nip and no more glider (although some people's cats and gliders are friends, but that is usually because they were raised around each other)

Ok thanks!
It would be easy from me to watch the Gliders(if i get one) because I am homeschooled!
Thanks so much for your help!

No problem, and its great that you're homeschooled. If you get one, you could carry it in a pouch all day, and that would REALLY help with the bonding.
Also, don't forget to factor in all the extras (cage-pretty expensive, food-can be costly in the beginning but after you get the vitamins and get used to buying produce its not so bad, toys-can get pretty expensive (mine are spoiled) but after awhile you'll learn to search around and get great deals, etc) Its not so easy for a teen to keep up with the costs, and I usually end up borrowing money from my mom, but I'm getting a job soon, so I'll make it work

My mom and dad would help to pay for it! It would be a family pet I think! What kind a Vitamins do they need?

It depends on the diet you use. I use BML, so you have to use Herptivite and Repcal, those are really the only expensive part of the diet, and they last for a long time. For some other diets it will say if you need to supplement their food with vitamins.
Who would be the primary caregiver of the gliders ? They would bond to one person the most, the person who takes care of them the most. They don't always make the best family pet, because they tend to "play favorites" and sometimes people get jealous.

It would be me(the primary caregiver) sence I want it and I am the animal love! My mom, dad, brother and sister wont want to take care of it!
Ok thanks! You helped me a lot!
My dad said we would have to get rid of 1 of are animals before we get another one! I want my brother to get rid of his snake! The poor snake is always in his cage and is never held! And he wanted to get rid of it awhile ago! Oh well! Thanks for the help!

If you buy a glider that does not come with a cage, cages run from about $30-$100, depends where you get it and if it is used and how big it is. Cages have to be at least 3x3x4.
Then you need a couple of food bowls and at least one water bottle which runs lets say 15 bucks for all of it.
Then you need wheel and lots of toys, wheels are usually 15-30 bucks again depending on where you get it and you cannot use the wire ones for hamsters it is best to get one online. And toys can run from anywhere from 5-30 bucks depending on what you get, best to get online again.
Then you need pouches which are anywhere from 10-20, again best to get online.
Bedding which is usually 10.
And then food, which all depends on what you feed, I feed suncoast which is I think 15 bucks for 1.5 lbs and fruit and vegies which usually run me about 16 bucks a week for 5 gliders.
There is your basic breakdown/.

Good to hear that your parents are willing to help you out with your sugar glider(s). They are very expensive to get started if you want to do everything and they are very needy of attention, if you don't give it willingly, they will get it! lol. Make sure that you get two if you can, they are very social animals. Something that I haven't seen mentioned on the forum in a while is that for the most part, they are not capable of being potty trained. I am a little bit of a clean physco, but be careful, feces in a house is not good ;) I just purchased a cage off of ebay from a wholesaler and it is the perfect size, here are the specs:
The dimensions of Cage are 31" wide x 19" deep x 62" height while on stand
Actual Cage Measurements are: 31" wide x 19" deep x 38"Tall.
Bar Spacing 1/2"

Includes (2) Large Plastic Food/Water Dishes with Swing-Out Doors for easy accessibility.
(2) Large Swing-Out Doors.

I got this cage for $125 including shipping, which is incredibly cheap compared to the pet stores around here. If anyone is interested, I bought it from:

I don't usually solicite online, but these people got my cage to me in 3 days and take credit cards. Check it out if you want a brand new cage for a used price. Good luck!!!

It looks pretty nice, but see if you can figure out the wire spacings. They should be no more than 1/2 x 1 inch (I think that's right)

Yeah it is! Thanks! I may not be getting one for like 1 or 2 months because I want a good one and I want it for my Birthday! That would mean that cage wouldn't be there though!
