My allergies that is. It seems whenever I change the bedding like today I get really itchy and sneezy. Its annoying, but not surprising since I'm allergic to basically every living thing. (cats, dogs, trees, grass) I don't mind the animal allergies much and they're getting better with time so I usually just ignore them. But I was wondering if theres a different kind of bedding for small pets that won't cause allergies as severly? I'm currently using aspen. I was wondering about trying carefresh but heard its pretty dusty which might cause a lot more sneezing. Should I try that or just shut up and live with it? :p

Have you tryed CareFresh Ultra, yesterdays news, and shredding newspaper yet? They seem to be the beddings least likely to cause an allergic reaction in hamsters so I thought It would go for people too?

No, I haven't yet. I'll definately try the Carefresh Ultra, I was going to pick up some tomorrow anyway to make my pregnant hamster more comfy when the babies arrive.

I thought plain newspaper wasn't good for hamsters? Though I have heard of a few people who use it for their rats so it can't be that bad.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Chaos I LOVE the carefresh ultra! And its really not that much more expensive if you watch. The aspen was bothering both me and my hammy so we switched and have both been really happy. Its great too cause if she pees outside her litter I can tell by the color change where she has gone......which makes clean up a breeze! You don't have to change the whole thing out all the time. :) Good luck!

Pine (and cedar) cause respiratory problems.

Is there any difference between Carefresh and Carefresh Ultra except for colour? Ultra seems almost double the price and if the only difference is colour I won't bother and just get the regular stuff.

I don't think there is any difference. Ultra claims to be less dusty but I didn't think so (i've used both). Personally, I don't like Carefresh at all and find aspen does much better, but that's obviously out of the question here lol. :)

I would try Yesterdays News...I've heard people rave about that stuff. I currently have a bag of it, but have yet to use it.

yesterdays news is more of a litter than a bedding. You could try YN on the floor of the cage with a "house" that has shredded toilet paper/paper towels in it so the hammie wouldn't have to sleep on those hard pellets.

There is also a "carefresh" or something like that at wal-mart, When I used it it is not really dusty at all. You could also try a different brand of aspen (from someone else, like I use natures gold aspen, there are others out there that "make" aspen, you might want to try one of those to see if they are less dusty).

goodluck.
