Pugs are wonderful dogs! I have a pug that is almost a year old and she is my baby! They are very lovable and love affection. My pug will sit with me for hours and always wants to snuggle. My pug LOVES children, I have three nieces that she loves to play with.
They do snore loudly, fart, and snort a lot. They are also mischevious and like to get into everything!! They are stubborn and definetly have a mind of their own. We have both of our dogs in training class right now and our dog that is only three months old is much easier to train, because the pug will do some training sometimes but a lot of times she just wants to do her own thing. If you have any other dogs or plan on getting more dogs, pugs can be very jealous and protective of their toys and food with other dogs. They LOVE to eat, and will eat anything and everything. It's fun to give them treats because they get so happy, but you have to be careful with that because they can get obese easily and it causes a lot of health problems. They also have flat faces and need to stay cool in hot weather. They can't be oustide long in 80 degree or hotter weather and need cold water all the time. If you live where it gets hot you would defintely need AC. They also shed tons!
But dealing with the not so great things about pugs are defintely worth it. They are really great dogs. I would defintely do some more research online about them and also research breeders if you decide to get one.

My Aunt has had 2 pugs. I loved to watch her old one drink water. Since their faces are so flat he would do this hilarious head bob to prevent his nose from getting in the water. Both of her pugs seemed quite offstandish with strangers. And awful barky. But her current one is a little snuggle bug once she gets to know you.

I had a Smooth Coat Red Tan Brussels Griffon (1/2 pug & 1/2 king charles spaniel) Ganymede ~ he died on his 9th birthday, 27/09/04 :( He is sorely missed, he was beautifully monkeylike, so much more than a dog, he was my little man, such a personality, life was built around him. Griffons are very much a companion dog, always love to be centre of attention, far too intelligent, very humanlike... a bundle of joy. I'd research as much as possible before getting any dog, check out ailments known to specific breeds for a better idea....
I still find it hard to believe he's really gone.
9 full years of love.
My next dog will be a rescue dog, there are so many lonely lost souls out there needing homes.

It Is very true what the other person said about flatulance and snoring , they snor and grunt because of there short snout/flat noses...They come in 2 colours fawn and black, i have a fawn/black litter 4 fawn and 4 black,
If anyone can tell me how to put pictures on i will be able to show you..

Visit a rescue or shelter and just look around. Maybe you can find a pug rescue and talk with the people and see some of the pugs. They can talk to you and you can find out if a pug is right for you. Then you can decide to find a breeder or go with a rescue pug. There are plenty on www.petfinder.com

I know one good thing to know about pugs and other short faced dogs is that if left out in the sun with no shade when its too hot they will die and there brain will cook in there head. So make a note of that.
But pugs are great dogs and they are funny and do funny things. They will make a great addition to your family. I used to work for a pug and french bulldog breeder :)
Oh yeah and if you have another dog or a cat, pugs sometimes enjoy eating others poo. It is really gross but they do.
