Chins are easy to take care of, but require alot of attention. They will only bite in order to protect themselves. They will nibble on your finger because they are curious lil creatures. They taste test everything.
They take baths in dust, they have no dander which is the leading cause of allergies because of pets. They can't get fleas or ticks because their fur is so dense. They have no natural odors, and they are relatively inexpensive to take care of, depending on where you live. The costs of chinchillas in the US range from $50-$500. I am not sure what prices are like in Singapore. I think the ownership between hamsters and chinchillas is strictly a personal preference.

I love my Chinchillas and always enjoy spending time with them. Make sure you get alot of information so you know all about them because they are quite picky.

I agree with ChinsNBuns that chins are easy to take care of, but need alot more attention than hamsters. Hamsters can get mean and bite very hard. I used to breed them and prefer breeding chins. They don't smell as bad and are much more unique. Visit as many web sites as you can to get all the info you need on chins and you will do just fine. There is a breeder in Singapore and they post sales and ChinNet often. Another great thing about chins is they can live for 15-20 years, some living for 25 years! Hamsters only live for 2 or 3.

I live in Singapore and I've seen the cheapest price for a chin is 300-400. That's for the non-pure breeds I think. Pure breeds can be worth up to 1k

What do you mean by "pure breeds"? That is not really a term breeders use here in the states.

Hi Northstar.
It really would be easier to know what your questions are. Chins are a very strange animal and they have all kinds of funky needs LOL. If you want to ask a few questions at a time then everyone can answer each one to make sure you are covered. there are also alot of great websites out there that have general care instructions on them.

Hi Northstar,
Well I have 15 chins in my herd not inculding babies, and over 40 right now until October, so my expenses maybe great. http://petshub.com/ubb/wink.gif
However, I do sell monthly supply kits to a few customers that only have one chinny and they spend about $6.00 a month on feed, hay, and dust bath. Then it is about another $4.00 to have it shipped if they don't want to come by and pick it up. And of course about $100.00 on treats and toys LOL! (just kidding) maybe about another $5.00 on treats if they use raisins and dried cereal.
If you are buying from a pet store, it will be much higher than that but still not too bad. The food will be around $5.00 per month, then the hay about $8.00 and the dust bath $7.00. I am not sure how much shipping would be to Singapore, but you are more than welcome to give it a shot. Just order from my site either by Paypal, or through email and I will ship it to you. I like to use the regular postal service as cheap as possible, but I don't mind using Fed-Ex or UPS. You may even be able to find a breeder or feed store there that can sell you products. You can also order products through ChinWorld.com. I hope this helps alittle.
