So, I 've got rats in my house now, running around in the kitchen and living room. I went out and bought one of the electronic pest repellers becuase I don't think that traps are the effective. The product says it can be used around dogs, cats, birds and fish. It uses ultrasonic waves that "disrupt the pests' nervous system, greatly affecting their feeding and communication habits...." This sounds great and all, but I wonder if it will do the same to my gliders. Has anyone ever used something like this around their gliders? Do you think its safe?

Would you be using it in the room where the gliders are? I'm not sure if it would affect them or not, I've never even heard of those.

the gliders share a wall with the kitchen and since its "ultrasonic," it probably easily travels through the wall. At least I hope so, or it won't be that effective against the rats.

I would definately NOT use those things anywhere near small animals because they generaly have a higher hearing range and I would not use it near animals that jump through the trees at night because those sorts of animals would need their hearing to detect stuff they cannot see and ultrasound is the most likely range to hear that. Wild sugar gliders are nighttime flyers. Now Gliders are NOT rodents so maybe it would be OK and you can plug it in and unplug it near them and see if they react. If they do not react, it is likely OK but I would still put it far away from them incase they do hear it and it starts to "get on their nerves" after a while.
Squirrel traps work fine on rats and there are multiple-catch rat traps that can be made or bought. I've tamed several wild rats caught in squirrel traps and they make fine pets (if you are into that sort of thing!)
