They don't smell, and i've never heard of any sugar glider that ate dried cat food. They do eat just about anything else though. (dont give them chocalate)

Hmm, I have heard that, but I don't give my gliders cat food... I usually give them some fresh fruits (apples and grapes seem to be my two little glider's favorites) and some veggies (frozen or fresh corn works well). And along with that, so they can get the vitamins essential to their lives, these little cubes mixed with "Repcal" and herptivite. :)

Well, I feed my glider's the BML diet. But at this (http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art4122.asp) site, it suggests that cat food is okay. In small portions...

"Dietary Requirements
They cannot consume fat. The majority of their diet is fruit and vegetables (75%). They should receive protein (25%)

These are the foods that sugar gliders like: strawberries, cantaloupe fruit jams, raisins, carrots, peas, low-fat turkey and low-fat deli ham, dried fruit, apricots, peaches, pineapple, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, fruit juices, papaya, grapes, peaches, honey dew melon, pears, blueberries, corn, oranges, yams, sweet potatoes, peanuts, squash, hard boiled eggs, Paw Paws, high protein baby cereal, assorted baby foods, low-fat yogurt, mealworms, small amounts of honey, dehydrated fruits and vegetables, small amounts of Iams cat food , and very small amounts of dog kibble.

The much of their fluid in take is from the fruit in the wild. The sugar glider must have fresh water available.

Vitamin deficiency can be a problem with sugar gliders. You should offer a liquid supplement in their drinking water or on their food.

Deviating from this diet, 75%/25percentage can be fatal to the Sugar Glider Avoid preservatives, artificial flavors, and colors. The Sugar Gliders diet is very specialized and can be quite expensive to feed. Something to take into serious consideration before you decide to bring home a sugar glider."

What would it do to them?

Cat food is ok in VERY small portions. The bad thing about it is that it is make to be matabolized by a carnovore (sp? I'm too tired to spell right. lol) and gliders are omnovires. They digest there food different. Also cat food is hard, and gliders extract moisture oout of their food. So eating anything with that low of a moisture content is not good. It can make little cuts in their mouths and when they get infected it is called lumpy jaw. It makes a hard knot on their jaw and cheek and it needs medical attection right ways. So better to be safe then sorry. BML is excellent. :)

Well, I don't think it'll hurt as an occasional treat.

no not as a treat, but she was asking if she could feed it as the staple food in the diet. That is a big no no. I wouldn't feed it to my glider, but that is just my preference. Shadow likes a lot of healthy treats so I try and focus on those.

Have you ever tried cheese? My boy goes wild for it!
