I thought this could be a fun thread to post pictures of your gerbils. If lots of members post we can see the differences in all the different Sp markings, from very lightly spotted, to extreme mottling, maybe even DPP!! :D Also it would be cool to see all the different bib lengths and shapes Tuxedo gerbils have.
So if anyone has a Spotted or Tuxedo gerbil I'd love to see some pictures up!! :jump:

Well, I think you saw these pictures already in another thread, but here they are again:
This is Martina. She has a small star on her head, a white belly, a really small marking on her nose and no white tail tip.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v88/padfoot82/Gerbils/Martina_18.jpg
This one is Runty, Martina's daughter. She has a star on her head, white belly, bit of white on her nose, white tail til and a pretty peppered tail. Even if it's considered a fault to have white hairs like that, I think it's very pretty!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v88/padfoot82/Gerbils/Runty_04.jpg
This one was Pikachu. He's the most spotted I've ever had. He was also Martina's son. He had an almost full collar (it was full, but had some black in it, and it was a bit thin on the sides), full blaze, with diamond on the forehead, white belly, white tail tip, and a pair of small spots on his back.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v88/padfoot82/Gerbils/Pikachu10.jpg
Here are the 3 spotted babies I have now. From left to right, a spotted dove that has a diamond on his head and a small line on his neck, a black that has the same markings as Martina, and another black that has a full collar (a bit thin on the sides), star on forehead, line on nose, white belly and white tail tip.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v605/Padfoot83/Martinasday21-01.jpg
I'll have to check later on the blacks I have to see about the tuxedos, but I think the ones I have have little or no bib.
I have this pic of the baby slate (??) I have, I took it with sexing purposes, but you can note that he only has a tiny (almost nothing) white on his lower lip...

Thanks for sharing Padfoot! :D Runty is really pretty, and that last gerbill does appear to be slate! Very suprising, gg is so rare where I live. I've never seen a gerbil with such a small bib before!! You must be very proud of him, I could never get any of my gerbils to stay still long enough for a belly shot :)

Nice pics Padfoot
It is pretty cool to see all the different spotting variations. (I like the peppered tail look to) But your 3 spotted babies (and pikachu of course) have to be the cutest. It's hard to get pups with perfect little diamonds, I only have one siamese with a small diamond, and a triange collar- I'll have to get a pic...
I kinda like the lighter spotting, where the entire stomach doesn't turn white, but they get that nice white chest- it looks beautiful. Martina is one of the lightest spotted gerbils I've seen- that has to be a rare combo to, especially when no tail tip turns out.

Thanks!!  She's so sweet to..I'd like to keep her, so I guess it's a good thing she's already reserved or I'd end up with to many pups here  ...it's always so hard letting them go.

I like the "arrowhead" patch, where they have a diamond on the head connected to a triangle on the neck. 8)
Here is a pic of Martina's belly. You can see she's pregnant here (actually taken the day before she gave birth). She had 4 pups then, she small litters of big pups! LOL

Audi at 3 weeks. She's the first gerbil I've seen in real life with a full blaze on her face. She's also my favorite pup because she's so friendly and brave.

That's great!! I didn't know their were other people from atlanta on this forum :D small world
Cute gerbils to, I like the mottled one (black/slate?), in the last picture, your slate girl and black gerbil have really long bibs, it's interesting to see the difference, mine have little diamonds on their chin, but no white past the throat. It was nice of you to take in so many gerbils, their cages are PACKED with toys!!
thanks for posting CUpid's pics SweetFancyMice, His little pup is beautiful, I love when the black color isn't diluted at all by the mottled markings, but stays clear rather then fading to slate. Did you keep the pup?

I like Audi's picture, her blaze is unusual, the head spot's so clear, and then a nice thin strip connecting it to her nose, rather then Callimico's black pup who has a very wide blaze, and then the pretty pied siamese with a medium blaze. Their really is a lot of variety in spotting!
Did Dakota or Jimmy mess his hair up? :) Are those the pied markings on AGS standards, with no varigated markings but full collars? I like the diamond to, no brown in the center of them.
Beautiful Gerbils Callimico!! I really like the pied siamese, and the extreme mottling. I wish I could have a gerbil with those markings. Or a CP agouti, like Lexus, she's gorgeous.
How does an unspotted black gerbil have 3 white paws? they're all cute, thanks for sharing!!

Really?!?! But his fur looks so dark in the picture, especially in contrast to the light white spotting...must be the picture. Did dusty and Oreo ever have gray agouti or black pups?

They had a few Solid Slates, and some Solid Agouti, but not Gray. Also Pied Mottled Lilacs. :p Hmmmmm, my favorite. ;)

I'm wondering is it possible Dusty isn't lilac, as she has to carry Aa for Argente and Agouti pups, if her mate is slate. She also can't carry Gg, because if she carried recessive g she'd have gray agouti pups after so many litters.
Is it possible all the slate pups are actually black? That would make more sense, since you don't any regular black (and she has one G for sure), and no gray agouti (like you would if she had recessive Gg), but still plain agouti pups from her. Your gerbils are very beautiful, but have very dark coloring for slates...
If these were the only genes she could pass down:
aa CC EE GG pp (Lilac)
aa CC EE GG PP (black)
Aa CC EE GG PP (Agouti)
Aa CC EE GG pp (Argente)
Her pups colors would make sense, otherwise somethings missing. But you know your gerbils best, I'm just wondering...

They really are Slates. I watch them fade, even the solids. Fate, on the first page, is Dusty's and Oreo's pup. And even her owner agrees with me that they are Slates.
About the somethings missing, I agree with you. I wonder if there is some thing that's missing from gerbil genetics??
Meriones
02-26-05, 05:37 PM 02-26-05
I didn't know you bred Fate, she's a beautiful gerbil. So not even one of the solids could be black?
You could be right, it's possible... maybe there's another "hidden recessive", or an unidentified loci in gerbil genetics. It would be really neat if your pair was one of the first to show it.

It's possible to not have blacks.. you know, statistically is possible, but in reallity not always the numbers show as they would (like my spotteds, I'm supposed to have 50% of spotted pups from Martina, but I've actually had around 25-30%). What really really confuses me is the agouti and argente pups from to gerbils that are aa. I mean... you can't easily confuse their color with one that carries A (you could confuse a lilac with a dove or a sapphire, but hard to confuse it with a grey agouti, and a black with a slate, but hard to confuse it with... there are actually no such dark colors with A...). That is just so odd!
callimico
02-27-05, 06:32 AM 02-27-05
Yeah I was always wondering about that. The only other light colors(such as CP agouti) that I can think of don't have red eyes, then the other colors are all to light. Plus Dusty looks dove...so there's something missing but it would hurt my head to much to try an figure it out :p
