Hey everyone i bought 2 female gerbils from petco sunday and i brought them home and set up their cage. i gave them a few inches of bedding cuz i know how much they love to dig and i gave them a wheel and a place to hid along with a water bottle.btw their names are kirk and spock:). the first day kirk was adventuouis going around checking things out and being very active and friendly hence the name. spock on the other hand though was solitary and didnt want my attention at all and just kinda sat off by herself except when she wanted to play. yesterday though i notice their roles had reveresed spock was now the active one and kirk was the one that didnt really do much. all kirk does is sit in the box or digg in the corner every now and then she will come to my hand but not often. spock is very outgoing and will come to my hand a lot and will even sit in my hand and eat from it. Also i have heard a lot of squeaking coming from the cage, i dont think they are fighting cuz they still groom each other. Is this normal behavior for gerbils im new so i dont really know but should i be worried about kirk or is she just in a bad gerbil mood. thank you for any advice I am sure it will help me take better care of my new friends!

i couldnt give u a profesional opinion but just from my experience as they are new they will still be settling in if kirk was adventrous at first may she is the more adventrous and spok was more aious and now she has adjusted she is explorin today. if they were housed together at the pet store then they would of fought already if they disliked each other. give them a couple of days to settle down i know its hard im the same with new gerbils cant leave them alone.
hope i helped

Sounds perfectly normal to me.
I have had gerbils act the same way, where I'll have a favorite who's super friendly, then the next week the cagemate will be the super friendly one.
They are young (so will squeek alot) and learning new things, figuring out there new home and such. Just keep encouraging them to interact with you, place you hand in the cage for them to smell and play on, and had feed them treats. Soon enough you wil have two gerbils jumping up the glass trying to get your attention so you will come and play with them :)

Double check the genders of them. I am not saying that all petcos have sex problems, but I adopted two supposedly female gerbils and I now have ten more gerbils to prove that they weren't.
