What makes you think he has colic? Does he have somewhere else to lay down or is the snow his only choice?

Is he wearing a rug? The bald patches could be from where it is rubbing if he is... As for laying down in snow, im not sure.
One thing i will say though, and you can call me harsh but i think its true, it is VERY irresponsible to buy any animal without being able to afford any vetinary care it needs. You should have insurance if you cant afford the vets bills but you should never let your horse suffer because you are unable to afford treatment. My honest suggestion would be to sell him or loan him out to someone who can afford to look after him :)
Good Luck.

You are harsh. :kaioken:BTW I never said he had colic, I just said he lays down in the snowy field. He could lie in his soft stall, but chooses not to. He doesn't even poop in it. Anyway I figured out the problem. He's bald there because when he lays down, his chest area touches the
ground and when he gets up,the fur sticks to the ground and is pulled off. It will grow back, I hope! ;) He doesn't wear a rug.He looks like my avatar.lol :p

bubbles, I agree it was harsh, but it is true. Horses can be so delicate (especially their legs) and there is no telling when they can get hurt or sick. I would suggest you look for ways of saving up in case your horse ever does need a vet.
*edit* make sure he is pooping though, and his poop looks normal. If not, there could be some serious problems.

I set aside $30/week into a fund for my animals.....been doing this for a couple of years now. Now, I have 7 ferrets as well as the 2 horses, that is why the $30/week......but if you could just set aside $5-$10/week, it really does add up fast. This fund should ONLY be used for vet ER's. Food and such should come out of the pocket. Just a bit of helpful advice, that may be easier on your pocketbook and helpful for your horse when in need. That way, your horse gets the medical it needs, and you don't have to stress over not having the money. It really comes in handy. ;)

Im sorry if you thought i was being too harsh but if something happened to your horse and it suffered because you were unable to afford medical treatment for it you'd find people being a LOT harsher. Over here if the RSPCA feel you are unable to look after any animal they will take it off you and there is not much you can do about it.
Im assuming you are quite young... Do you parents pay for your horse? If so i would very strongly suggest you get some insurance for him!! My horse had a nasty accident and broke his back, leg and damaged his pelvis and needed over £5000 worth of vets treatment. I wouldn't have been able to afford this without insurance so in my opinion, it is definately worth the expense!!

Yes, I am only eleven. We got our horse free from my grandmother's cousin. We got him free because the land that his old owner lives on only has room for 6 horses, not seven.

He is pooping normally.
His hair has grown back now.
The reason why he never poops in his stall is be cause
he never really goes in his stall except to eat, drink, and be groomed.
