Greetings Billie's Mom,
Congras on your addition of the parakeet.
I think your dog is just excited about his new friend. Slowly introduced them to each other. Like your dog sniff it and praise your dog when he isn't too rough. It will take a bit time to make him accept his new friend.
It is interesting to know that it is your dog that is excited about your parakeet than your cat. LOL.

We have a website where you can purchase books, food, etc.. our company is Treasured Friends Exotic Birds http://www.petbirds-exotic.com
I would be very cautious and careful letting your bird get around your dog or cat. The dog may have good intentions of being friendly but then all of a sudden,... Just please be mindful of where the bird and dog are at all times.
Good Luck,
Tommy

I heard that cats may look like they don't care about the bird's chirping. But sometimes they don't mean to hurt them in any way. They hurt them out curiousoty.A curious cat may accieedently knock the cage off the stand.I relly like cats.
