To whom it may concern,
I am in a bit of a situation here. And I could really use advice from experienced owners out there. So anyone that can help me is greatly appreciated. I am a huge lover of animals, and I trying to decided wheither to get a ferret or a Sugar Glider. The qualities I am looking for are- An animal that (in time) will be VERY affectionate to me. An animal that will be fun to play with. Money and Time are not factors(I am going to save up a emergency fund for whatever animal I get, and I have alot of time to devote to the animal). Basically what I am looking for is an animal that I will be able to play with, and be very affectionate toward me, and cuddle with me, and let my play with them. Also- Im looking for an animal that will not damage my house too much. Would a ferret or a sugar glider be right for me?

If you want to cuddle get a ferret. It has been my experience that sugar gliders, although form an incredible bond with their owners, are not the type of animal that can be cuddled. My glider is more bonded to me that most gliders are to their owners and he still does not like to be cuddled. He will cuddle me, but if I confine him in anyway he gets scared. Ferrets are more "lap dog" type animals. They are bigger so they post less of a threat to the getting squashed issue. Also a ferret can be liter boxed trained and can live as a house pet. Gliders need to be caged and are nocturnal so you will only see them right before you go to bed. Gliders make a wonderful pet for the right owner (or ownee) but are not the pet for everyone. I hope this helps and if you would like any additional information on the care and responsibility of gliders please let me know. I would be more then willing to help you to the best of my ability.

I disagree
a sugar glider are very nice affectionate animals who can be cuddled. Im just starting to get very bonded with my sugar glider and am just starting to hold him and he feels safer if i cuddle him. He likes me to have him as close as possible to me.Hes also very smart and playful but they need time, and they wont be very affectionate to u at first.

my gliders are also affectionate.. they dont like to be cuddly long, but they are, they wont go to anyone other than me, & sometimes chris..
i do have a wonderful bond with them, but i dont think my ferrets are any more cuddly than a glider.. heck, my ferrets dont want anything to do with me when they are out running around.. they would rather take my shoes! =]

I couldn't tell you for sure, but talk to breeders in your area, if you do research and feel that you would want a sugar glider. Gliders are very different from each other, my boy will sometimes sleep in my hand, but not usually, and my girl wants nothing to do with it. But some gliders are the most cuddly little things you will ever come across. It depends on the individual glider, every one is different.
