We've been researching sugar gliders and are almost ready to bring one home. I've read that most purchase 2 to keep each other company. We would have no problem giving our baby plenty of time & attention so I was wondering is it OK to have just one? What about if we deceide purchase another later (don't want overwhelm ourselves to start off) could they be introduced and housed together?
Please post of your expierence in our situation.
Thanks

its easier to intro younger animals for one & i really feel its important th ey they do have a cagemate.
would you like living somewhere being the only species? it would probly be scary.
I know some do fine on their own, but i do not recommend getting only one.
my two cents...

In the wild Sugar Gliders do naturally live in groups, they are social animals and it really is highly recommended to keep at least two together to keep each other company, and as Kat pointed out, this will greatly lower stress caused from being kept alone.

Ditto what songbird said.

Many people will tell you that as long as you have enough time to give them alot of attention, one is fine. But that is not true. No matter how much time you have on your hands or how bonded the glider is to you, there is no substitution for another glider. One glider may live just fine on it's own, but it won't be as happy and healthy as it could be otherwise. I highly recomend getting two.

I have had a single glider for over a year and I am now looking for another. It gets really hard not to feel guilty when you hear him playing all byself! My advise is to get two but to make sure that you bond with each of them individually.

There is no substitute for another sugar glider. Regardless of how much time and affection you give a single glider, it will not live to it's life expectancy and won't be as happy.
