how can you tell other than going to the vet if a cat is pregnant? what does her belly feel like? how would she act beforehand, and during? I've had my cat since october 1 2002, is it possible that she isn't spayed as I had been told? is it possible that we've gone that long without me seeing any signs of heat?

I doubt that very much. CAts do however go thru fake pregnancies so she may be going through this.
Since she is spayed she is not knocked up! Good for you for having her spayed!

Wow Peace how sweet of you. The cat is SPAYED! The owner did what he was suppose to do and you threaten to kill.
I really do not think your name fits you all that well.

Actually from the sounds of it, the current owner actually did NOT have her spayed, but was TOLD she was spayed when they got her. (from a shelter i'm assuming?)
These things often do not get mistaken, but if you're in doubt, take her into your vet, and have them check for a spay scar. That should ease your mind :)

I stand corrected however they owned the cat for over 2 years so I doubt that they are looking at a preggy cat.
And even if it was preggy there is no need whatsoever to threaten to kill someone here. That is totally out of line and totally uncalled for. Shows how idiotic this person is.

Agree with Tiada, see vet to check if cat's definitely spayed, if not - also check if cat's now pregnant ! What's making you think she's possibly pregnant ?

I agree, what Peace said was insulting and unnecessary. "you catch more flies with honey that vinegar" Peace you should consider this when you post.
I dont know the circumstances, as they weren't made clear, and as it DOES seem unlikley that the cat is pregnant, she may have just gotten out or something, and they may be concerned for those reasons. I personally think that they have very little to worry about, but if in doubt, always consult a vet! :D

she's got what started as one but is now multiple parts of her belly that feel slightly more firm than her kitty fat. I've been trying to get a vet appointment and when I finally do it'll be with a wait, so I'm just trying to ease my fears while I'm waiting.
I thought at first that it was a hernia or some other scary (to me, at least) medical condition. but then I started thinking about her actions.. when you poke and prod she doesn't mind until it gets excessive, so it doesn't seem to hurt her. she's sleeping more but still has her insane playful moments, like when she decides to run up the side of a tree meowing all the while, or throws a mousie toy into the closet and follows. she's been going back and forth between more cuddly than usual and more "leave me alone!" and she had a surge in appetite starting a few weeks back.
when I got her I was seventeen and they were about to take her to a high-kill shelter. she was basically abandoned by her owners and had moved into the trailer nextdoor, going through their cat door and eating their cats' food. she was friendly to very few people and VERY aggressive with the other cats. when I first got her she used to hiss a dozen times a day and almost always be hiding.. now you have to pretty much TRY to get her to hiss and she follows my mom and I around like a puppy. she's a sweet cat, sleeps on my bed every night and hates being held, but decides to jump in my lap every night when I'm on the computer and not paying attention to her. I've only been able to take her to the vet once since I got her, about six months ago, and was told she was a healthy six year old female except for the cut on her paw that I had brought her in for. I told them I was told she was spayed and wasn't sure, but she never looked or told me whether or not she thought she was.
if she WASN'T fixed, would I see the results of it.. drops and such?

Check out some of the "cat pregnancy links" - thread posted earlier, do as much research as you can whilst waiting, get any info you can for free, ring and ask various vets advice. Do you have any idea if she's ever had kitz before ?
Peace

Why would you think the cat is preggers? I agree take the cat to the vet and have them check for a spay scar.

I'll kill you!!!! You need to change your name or something because it definately does not fit your personality. The person did not try to get their cat pregnant (if it is) they were told that it was already fixed. Granted it sucks since there are already so many animals that need homes, but threatening his/her life isn't the answer. If anything it would only create more animals that need homes as you would have killed their owner, so you would be adding to the problem even more.
Peace
