Hey everyone. I am finally ready to adopt some Dwarfie Hammies! I love them very much, and since I married my husband and can have all the hammies I want. I'm Ready! He likes Dogs and Hamsters. Weird Combination but I love him all the same. I am an experienced owner, so no worries. Other then that I am currently training little Monty and loving Jax everyday. If anyone knows about any Hammies (I have looked into shelters, and rescue groups already, so check check :D ) Does anyone know of anyone giving u, having to "get rid" of or maybe a hobby breeder in the Richmond VA, USA area. If so let me know. Much appriciated. Oh, I prefer Cambell but any other kind is welcomed in my home. Thank you very much! Any info appriciated no matter how small.

I rescued a bunch from my pet store. They know me there. The assistant manager was gone for a week and a male got in with some females - unwanted litters! So I eventually picked up three females and nine pups formonly a dollar each. God knows what would have happened to them if not for me as the store is crowded. I have to post photos in due course. . .

I am thinking about going to check out petsmart. But I know about the temperment of Pet shop animals. Who knows? I did have a good hammies before from a pet shop. Very sweet never bit a soul :D Even my cat loved them. The Hamster escaped one day, and we found it sleeping next to jezabel, our cat. She didnt care.

our hammies came from a petstore called Petarama and they have been precious! I think it depends on the calibur of people working there!

some small petstores breed their own or deal with small scale hamster breeders much preferable to getting a hamster from a large store who has obtained its stock from a commercial hamster farm

Yea, I have been looking around. Not much of them in the area. Not even local pet stores. And I am in a capitol city in the US! Go figure :P

Her name is Laura Collins and she runs Blessed Acres Farm in Wingina, VA. She breeds dwarfs, syrians, mice, rats, chinchillas, and gerbils. Her number is 434-969-2985. She likes to meet the people that adopt from her, so I doubt she will ship. She is part of the National Alternative Pet Association. My friend Sarah gets her Ratties from her, she thinks they are friendlier, and built well. I dunno nothing about rats. Good Luck on finding a dwarf.

Also in Maryland http://www.harfordshelter.org/cgi-bin/animals.pl?view_records=1&db=animals&uid=default&Type=Other&nh=2&mh=1 they have 3 dwarfs for adoption. They are very cute. By mapquest you seem to be an hour and 20 minutes away. I dont know if that is to far, but they are cuties!

Thank you so much CammieHammie. I actually was born in Harford county, and I know exactually where that is. If they would let me adopt them, I surely will. Thank you soo soo much, and hopefully these three will have a good home with me. My family is still from around there, five minutes as a matter of fact, and I have been needing to visit them. Besides that I am transporting Monty's sister to my grandmother in Pennslyvainia, south eastern part. So I need to go right through there! Make a great oppertunity to get the dwarfies. Thank you once again!

Congrats on the new dwarfs I cant wait to see pics of them! Are they red eyed or black eyed or both? I have a red eyed girl, and want to get a black eyed. I want to get a pair, my girl Speedy was abused by her past owners so I thought a life of solitare would be better for her. I bet yours are going to be great to watch.

They are black eyed wilds :D Both male, But I am crossing my fingers that one is female (you know how pet stores are). In any case, they are lovely, and lots of fun. Pretty tame for a petstore. I wanted one so bad, and so thats what I did. First time ever doing that, but no animals needed rescueing in my area. I love these little creatures, and I caged them in a storage bin, clear see through and it is HUGE! They love it. I made them houses out of pop-tarts boxes and toliet paper rolls. I colored them with markers, and it is a decrotive touch. I am using newspaper that is shredded for their bedding. They have a wheel and a run around house ball. And oh so yummy food with sun flower seeds. Been a while since I have had them, and I cant wait to take their pics. I am looking for a set of girls to give them a home now. In a seperate bin of course. Can't wait!

I hope you get them. They are beautiful too. Hamsters are addicting. Yours sound adorable, and I bet they are happy to be rescued from the pet store. I think you are lucky that there are not many animals to be adopted in your area that is a good sign. I will be in DC this summer, I promised my daughter, to take her there for the 4th of July. Maybe you can help me out on where is the best place to go see fireworks there.
