I use aspen, but it can be dusty.

For a while I just used torn up paper towels for bedding that has no dust and it's cheap.

that's a good idea, but not to be rude why did you stop? Is carefresh safe?

I stopped because my lovely little hammies would throw it out of their cage after they had gathered enough for their nest. So it was just a mess to clean up. And I have never used carefresh but it is supposed to be the safest kind of bedding.

I use carefresh and I and Ralph and Hoop LOVE it-it is nearly dust free, good for digging thru and absorbant, plus I believe it's made out of recycled paper, so good for hammies, good for environment-ya can't lose.

I use a mix of aspen and carefresh, just because carefresh is so freakin expensive! $32.00 for a large bag! So I use about an inch to an inch and a half deep of aspen and about half an inch of carefresh. With 4 adult hamsters and 5 babies I go through a lot of bedding, I can't afford to spend $32.00 a week on bedding. Aspen is great, I wouldn't say its better or worse than carefresh.

i would recommend carefresh beause when i had my hammies R.I.P... =( they absolutely LOVED carefresh! they would burrow in it and build really big nests and its nearly dust free except when you get to the bottome of the bag then it gets just a tad bit dusty.. but its not like pine.. carefresh bedding is soft and it has no fumes or anything has anyone heard about the carefresh that is white in color? i saw it in petsmart the other day and was wondering about it

I like aspen, and carefresh. I use carefresh for a few of my hamsters, and the rest I use aspen. I have 2 syrians that seem to have an allergy to aspen, but the others are fine with it.

Carefresh Ultra is white in color. Same thing as the gray stuff but white. That's what I use and I absolutely LOVE it. I only pay 2.99 per bag for the small ones IF I get it at the right store, but it is usually more expensive. Up to 7.00. I refuse to pay that, so I stock up when I am at the other place. I am going to ask them if thaty can or will get it in the big bag for me. Chaos, I can see if they are cheaper than 32.00!! :)

Your best to change though pine isn't as bad as cedar its can still release hamrful phenols, carefresh is the best to use but it is expensive you can use aspen though but I've never had any experience with that because I can't find it in England.
