i am looking to move out (most likely next year...)
but i have noticed that apartments dont like dogs that are over 60 pounds or no dogs at all... and then when you do find one they have stupid prices you have to pay just so you can have your dog with you... like 350 pet fees then an extra amount per month...
i want to take my 7 year old golden with me and shes well behaved and house trained, also she is non agressive towards humans, dogs, or cats.
only issue is shes over 60 pounds...
my other issue is i am a college student and am not willing to pay more than 700 a month........ because of well the fact that its not worth living in a really really expensive place at my age and i dont believe i will ever make enough money at this time of my life to pay more than that. haha.
how have any of you found a pet friendly (large breed dog mainly) apartment?
thanks in advance for any help :)

My friend just went throught this. My suggestion is to call all the apartments around the area you want to be around and ask them about it, if they won't let you have the dog just keep calling around. Also, most apartments that are in like a house will allow you to have dogs that size so you might want to try that.
I hope you find one that will allow you to have your dog :) Good Luck

Duplexes and basement suites are a great choice. My boyfriend and I are currently living in a one bedroom basement suite for only $325 a month (washer and dryer included!;) ) and we are allowed any pets. Landlords are happy to let your dog accompany you if you can arrange for them to meet the dog. If they see that they are a QUIET, well-behaved dog they usually don't have a problem. With a basement suite you are only sharing one building with usually only a few other people. Apartments aren't the best choice since you're taking more than a few dozen people's peace and quiet into consideration.
Good luck!

Start searching now, advertise yourself for wanted accommodation, it can take a long time to find the "right" place, but if you search hard enough, you may well find an animal loving landlord...

That is one thing I am worried about. Not only do I have 1 dog who is over 60 pounds, but I have 2! However, I don't think I will ever live in an apartment because of all my animals (2 cats, 2 dogs and 2 rabbits would accompany me).
Good luck! It can be a hard search to find the right place, but don't give up! If you look long enough and hard enough you eventually will find somewhere to live that fits all of your needs.

They exist. Do online searches, try Google. They let you customize your searches and find apartments in your area that allow pets. .
Here's one site..

I don't know how good that one is though.. It only listed one in my state and I know there are a lot more. www.rentnet.com should have a lot.
A lot of them will have 50 for a weight. She's only 60.. Highly unlikely they're going to make you put her on a scale. You could bring her when you go to see the apartment, say she's about 45-50 and ask if she looks OK. :D

Your local spca could probably help you. My husband and I rent a house and have two dogs. We found it because our spca will help people find a place that allows dogs so they don't have to be turned over to a shelter.

My apartment allows any size dogs. That wasn't a problem for us. We have Jax 22 lbs, and Monty 2 lbs. 250 deposit and 16 extra a month. I can't wait to move back to our REAL house in Florida, my husband had a job relocation so we rent :P.

dardest thing happened today...
my mom told me my golden smells like poopies and took her to the groomer (hey if my mom wants to pay for it i dont mind other wise she goes in the shower and gets a trim before summer and trim before winter)
anyways my other dog that, my moms puppy is in love with... well my other dog went nuts it sounded like someone was getting killed in the house because of the yelping and howling... this went on for 45 minutes. i was wondering what was going on so i looked and thus my big dog was gone and then i just shoved my dog in with the puppy and she was then quite.
but if i take my big away from my smaller dog i cant think of the depression she might get. if a day at the groomers is hell just think about her never coming back...
i think i might just get a puppy of my own later on after i get an apartment or something to live in. i have always wanted a really really big dog. even though they are a lot of work i love big dogs and the time you need to spend with them. great danes are my fave.
