Hi I just found this thread and I desperately need help. My hamster's skin is turning black. It's started out with a few patches and now there's new spots everyday. I'm worried and the vet claims she's never seen or heard of it before. If any of you have info PLEASE HELP :tired:

maybe you need a new vet, have them take skin scrappings and see what it is.

go to a new vet who's at least willing to try SOMETHING....get a second opinion.
i've never heard of it before, but it doesnt sound good. skin cancer maybe? i dont know

oh i just thought of something, it could be scent glands...they're black, just on some hamsters they're mmore noticable...
how big are the black spots and where are they? and how old is the hamster?
my previous hamster developed a black spot on his back when he became adult...vet said it was just a scent spot

I went to another vet this afternoon. It's skin cancer. I was told to bring him back in when he starts to seem uncomfertable and we'll discuss what to do. Thanks for replying though , I'll keep you updated if you wish.

I am so sorry. Im sure you will love him until the end. Its good that your hammie wasnt misdiagnosed that would have been more painful for you and your hammie.
