Well, some of you might've noticed, I recently got another hamster, and I was wondering on how I could get to know it better, so it can get used to me more. I've went up to it before and tried petting it, and it'll like turn over on its back and I'll be like, scratching its belly for it. My mom said that it wants me to, but I was afraid maybe it was trying out some sort of defense mechanism, because it was scared of me. So, have any of you ever had a hamster that likes its belly scratched or rubbed? Just wondering. I didn't want to freak the little gal out. I hope this isn't too weird of a question.

when they get into belly up position it means they're scared.

Aww, now I feel bad; :( all this time I've thought she liked me! I've only had her for about a week and 1 day though. This has only happened a couple of times. It's just been hard since I lost my other hamster; I have to do the "bonding" and "getting to know eachother" thing all over again. Hopefully, soon we'll get used to eachother though; and she'll think of me more as a friend. She's a cute little thing; she's long-haired and whitish/yellow coloring. I think she's a more of a younger hamster though, with just the way she acts sometimes.

I had to do that after i my hamster passed away and i got my newer one. She is named Sugar Cooki, I had to bond with her too. I would just get a pair of gloves and open up the cage and see if she will come to you. If not keep trying.
Another thing you can try is, Getting her out (somewhere hamster pruffed) make sure you research this before hand so you know what to do!! As for covering holes, vents, doors, anything, that is how i got cooki to really bond. It only took three days and she is climbing all over me, But your room has to be hamster proofed really good and i mean good or he/she will be gone. Make sure there are no holes like i said, vents, doors ways, anything bad to chew, anything on floor to pichup and pput in poutch. I just thought you could do tis i spend about an hour a night before i go to bed, she climbs, runs, plays ect. I hid some treats but she just wanted back in her house after she found them, but you can try on first night. :) I know your hamsters new you just have to give her time "since she's new" she will come around.
Just remember she will be scared at times at those times just pick her up and comfert her. I spend alot of time in my room  so when i firs got her it was normal to me. I listen to my music and stuff write sometimes any ways, she got used to my voice! if you want to try that. What i mean is staying around her and talking to her, so she learns your voice.
Those are just some things to try!! have fun!! :slaphappy:

I think I'm going to have to try that out with Snowball, letting her out to play and such. Yep, I'll definitely have to make sure that everything is hamster proof; that includes making sure the cats are all outside at the time!
Snowball has been really spinning on her wheel lately though, and she seems to glance up when I call out her name! My mom has been holding her a few times lately as well, and I'll pet her a few times when she's doing that.
She's also really cute when she is making her bed; she'll carry the shavings across the cage and then make everything just so/so. It's really adorable!
