gerbil allright?

My gerbils were playing in the playbox ( a big tuperware) and I took one of them out. She crawled on my arm, stood on her hind legs and looked around. Then she must have slipped because she fell (I was standing up) down and into the playbox. Thanks goodness there was carefresh in the playbox so I don't think she hit too hard. Anyway she just stood there in shock for a minute and then hobbled into the wooden house. For a little while she came in and out of the house but was not limping anymore. I put her back into the cage where she went on the wheel for a second and then came right back off. I don't think any of her legs are broken but what should I do?

Don't worry :smiley: adult gerbils(even your girls ages) are very good at not getting themselves hurt, even when they fall several feet. She might have been suprised for a few minutes afterwords, but if she could run on the wheel I don't think there's anything to worry about. If her foot were broken or hurting her you would see her licking it, or keeping the weight off it, favoring her good legs for awhile.

Even if it was broken gerbils heal very fast and very well, they dont' require anything special(except being handled with more care to be sure they don't jump around on it to much) and recover within weeks without aid.

Was it Chloe or Kayla that took a dive off your arm? :grin: lol, gerbils can be so crazy, othertimes they scary me by suddenly jumping a couple feet when they're startled. I'm glad they got along so well and thanks for sending me the pic! :biggrin:

I have a couple gerbies who really have no care how far up they are, if i'm not watching they will jump!
I haven't had a gerbil hurt themselve from a fall, but we should always be aware that they could get hurt and to make sure to watch them when they are out so that it doesn't happen.

Don't worry about it. Jerry jumped of my shoulder when I was standing up and trust me, thats NOT why he died! He got sick.
