What kind of wheel is it? The metal ones with the rungs for their feet isn't safe. They can break legs that way.Plastic wheels are safe, and the majority of plastic wheels make no noise at all.

If it is plastic, use vegetable oil. Its harmless if they lick it.

veggi oil. cool i have that in my kitchen. i dont have to go out and buy anyt thing .lol but ya i just have the wheel that came with the cage.. It's a crittertrail 3, so it's a plastic wheel, I've had it for 3 almost 4 years (My hamster before:crybucket) So its safe. She likes now, meaning she comes down and runs. she didn't like to come down for some reason. I started getting her out. I hammie proofed my office in my bedroom, so she can run free she loves it. It brought a whole new side out of her. So tha for the veggi oil news, i'll try it

I use olive oil, actually. Clean off the hub now and then.

you should try them. They're cheap and both safe for hamsters.

well i'd show you a picture but i dont know how to post a link. eer! It's the one that came with my cage (it's a crittertrail 3)

If i ever switched to a different one it would have to be able to lock onto her cage

i dont like crittertrail cages

is this the wheel you're talking about?
if yes then i hear you! those wheels are so noisy.....here's what i used to do until i got sick of the cage and got a new one: i would put scotch tape around the thingy on which the wheel spins...just one layer of scotch tape, so it can still spin.....it will make the wheel silent for about a week, then the tape gets ripped up and you need to replace it to be silent again.

I have a wheel that squeaks also. I have learned to live with the squeak for now until I get a newer one. (I cant find the ones that are totally plastic yet.) I just turn the radio on and it slowly fades out. I know my hammie goes 90 mph in that wheel and I just dont have the heart to take it out and give her the metal one.

that cage looks big enough to just put a good wheel inside of it on the bottom.....why dont you do that?

Fluff N Roll
04-30-05, 02:05 PM 04-30-05
well i'm going to try the veggie oil and if that doesn't help then i dont know, it loks big but after you put the levels in and the tubes, and one ther thing, there isn't much room for any thing els. so i dont know. That wheel is just big enough for her. I have only seen one other wheel that is ok but it's wire and i dont like that!!

This was the other wheel that i was talking about... It's the bigger one that i would have to get but i dont like how it has the little boxxes for the running area, so i dont know, i'll se how the veggie oil does.. What do you guy think about the wheell for a hamster, i actually think her legs will get caught in one of the wholes and brake. (Don't want that :hamster3: )

no that metal wheel will start making noise after a week or two

use one of the ones i showed you....one is completely solid and the other, even though has plastic bars, the spaces are too little for the legs to fall through...

those looked alittle smaller than the one she has and just fits in her wheel fonffy, you know "she's not that big! lol" but i used the olive oil and it doesn't seem to be squeeking, but i got her out and i saw something on her back and i was like oh crap... i took her out to my sis and she reminded me that i had put the oil on the wheel lol. so i guess it's ok for know. she loves that wheel and it looks so radd in her cage.
