My hamster has two wounds on his neck, he a dwarf hammy, Hudson. I don't know how it could've happened, I do have a cat, but he never goes where the cages and if he got him he might of killed him :( Hudson is sratching hair off the area of the wound. He seems fine, but I don't want it to get bad! Has anyone had a problem like this? What should I do!?!?

Well the first thing you should do is rub a little neosporin clear type onto the wound. Hamsters are normally quick to respond in fighting the bacteria. I would watch it closely and see if any pus or liquid draining. Also check the area around the wound for any sign of redness. The neosporin will help this. Now about the fur loss...can be helped by crushing a yeast tablet on the hamster's food every other day, lessening the amount once fur has started to regrow. (Yeast tablets can usually be found at a chemist or pharmacy amongst the human vitamin tablets). If yeast tablets are unavailable, vitamin drops (available from pet stores) added to the water will aid fur re-growth. Good Luck with Hudson!

i REALLY dunno if this is the case but....are you sure he wasn't bitten by an insect?
about 7 years ago, my cat licorish (rip) was bitten by a spider and had an allergic reation to it....his underbelly was red and swollen and there was some fur loss and i do remember swollen lumps and oozing as well.
i'm really not sure if this is the cause in your case but it is something to look into...call your vet and ask some questions.
licorish turned out ok, he did have many many vet visits but he was just fine afterward and he lived a long and happy until he had to be put down last year.
i hope your hamster is alright please keep us updated

My female (Deb) had a chunk of fur missing from the middle of her forehead once. It grew back pretty quick. I think her tank mate (Napoleon) might have messed her up. That or she hurt herself trying to escape.
