Hey any one know how to hand feed a baby ham ham????? Not sure what type or how old.... It looks YOUNG as in no hair eyes closed.... My dad went to a pet shop to get some feeder mice and came home with 2 baby ham hams..... Im so mad at him. Now he wont take them back....... See I have hand fed mice and rat pups before but never ham hams. I have not had a ham ham for YEARS. The last time I had the were when I was about 5 to 7 years old. I bred them..... Now im 19..... I breed mice and leopard geckos now.

OK thanks. I will see if I can keep him/her alive. OH hold is KRM for kats? Tha'ts not a good thing to use for mice. You use puppy milk for mice and rats.... My vet told me that.

KMR kitty milk is fine to use, just feed it through a syringe or dropper. I used it with my runt because the mom abandoned her and she is now 6 weeks, and as healthy as her brothers and sister.

Well female ham hams that are nice and loving BEFORE than have babies turn mean. AS in they don't want you to mess with them when they are full of babies and not mess with them when they have there babies. ALL my females did that. I bred ham hams years ago and I had like over 7 females and 3 breeder males. BUT that was years ago and I don't breed them no more.

Its definately a syrian, he/she is going to have darm markings. I would say it is around 10 days, maybe a few days younger. I would definately file a complaint at the pet store. I would give it KMR Kitty milk for another week or so. Also in another 5 days start giving some hard boiled eggs, baby food, hamster meatloaf Chaos has a recipie somewhere on here. Good Luck, and it is definately adorable.

We had to hand feed our dwarf hamsters. They were about 5-6 days old when we found them. Here is a little advice.

1. Continue with the KMR. Feed them often, just like a newborn baby, every 2-3 hours.

2. The recipe for the hammie meatloaf is:
1 Tbs. quality canned puppy food.
1 Tbs. oats
mashed banana.
A little bit of the milk replacement. I used regular infant formula.

3. Make sure you give them plenty of water. The KMR is NOT enough. You MUST give them water. Give it to them out of a syringe or eyedropper.

4. DO NOT feed them on their backs. They WILL drowned.

5. And, of course, keep them very, very warm. 70-75 degrees is not enough. Remember, mom lays on them to keep them warm.

I think that just about covers it. I had to learn most of that the hard way. I don't want to discourage you or anything, but when they are that young, sometimes they don't make it. We thought we were in the clear when they were about 17 days old, but they still took a turn for the worse. I had really become attached to them at that point. Hope it helps. Please keep us updated on their progress.

Oh, one more thing...

After you feed them, take a warm, damp rag and rub them around their private areas. You have to do this so they will go to the bathroom. Their mom usually takes care of that, but now your "mom." If you don't assist them in expelling their waste it will back up and they will die.

Ok Thanks sooooooooo much. I will give him some water. And all so I know about the rubbing private areas (I hand fed mice and rats before). Is 84F-85F ok for a ham ham baby? Also when should I start the meatloaf? I will do my best.

That is a good temperature for the baby. I started the meatloaf when they were 6 days old. I would put a little on the end of a toothpick and put it right up to their mouth. They loved it. When they started moving around they would usually be able to find it on their own. If you put it in their cage, change it often. It begins to smell quickly.

Ok I will make some latter, im a little busy right now at school. My mom is helping me feed the ham ham.. When I get home I will make some. Some one on here said the baby looked about 10 or so days old well if you started at 6 days old I guess I can start today or tomorrow with it. Is that ok? Do I need to give him water every time I give him the milk? This is a little different than mice/rat babies..... When I hand feed them I don't give water I put it into the milk... But than again this is a ham ham not a mouse/rat.

You need to give them water as often as you can. I would give the milk and then give them water between their milk feedings. My hammies got extremely dehydrated because I didn't know about the water. The vet said because they are not getting their mother's milk that they must have water. Once I started to give the water to them they really perked back up.

I am not sure yours is 10 days old yet. Here is a picture of my hammy baby at 10 days old. Yours didn't look like it had much fur.

This picture is my hammy at 7 days old, which looks a little closer to yours. It has a fine covering of fur here.

Hey Chaos can you tell me what age are these ham hams???? I think they look about my ham ham's age.

I do know it eats good. I drinks the milk and I give it water just like you said. I will start the meatloaf thing in a few days, if that's ok.

They have a fairly good sense of smell. If Brittany's hand smelled anything like food to them, they will try to bite.

ya maybe she had food smell on her hand... OR maybe she was scard when she put her hand in the cage. Animals can tell your mood.
