Adoption From Petco!

Hello! I am a newbie to the hamster forum here. Yesterday I adopted a lonely female hamster from my local Petco. The sign on her tank said she was a Short Hair. She's a lovely honey cream color. So soft and friendly. Very tame. She's about 4 to 5 inches long so I think she's an adult. I asked how long they had her and the sales guy said a pretty long time. I felt bad for her so I brought her home. I haven't had a hamster since I was a child and that was a Long Haired female I kept just shy of five years.
I have a bunch of bedding do to the fact I have gerbils. Which would my lovely new girl like more: Aspen or Carefresh? Plus, I gave her a little Timothy to chew on. You guys know how Petco is so I figured the care sheet was only half reliable.

My hammy is adopted too, from a shelter.

both Aspen or carefresh are good beddings, i personally use carefresh.

Does your petco have a local shelter place pets there? That's really a great idea. I know one petshop that does that- but they don't sell any other pets.

I use carefresh for all my guys except my dwarf- as she tends to be stinky at times and the aspen I feel masks the odors better. Carefresh is better than aspen for longhaired hamsters, I've found- tangles in the fur less.

Congrats on your new hammy! Is she red eyed or black eyed cream? Any name ideas yet? I always have the hardest time coming up with names!

She has black eyes. I think I will just call her honey pie, lol. It's rare to see adoption at my local Petco. They haven't been open for very long. I said after I made my last purchase at my local pet store I would only adopt if I wanted any other pets.

You know they dont really have adoption things at my petco for hamsters, but once when i went with my sister and my mom, i had to go to get bedding or somthing.. There where two black bear hamsters omg they were so cute...

I know they have adoption day for dogs and well there are always cats up for adoption at my near by petsmart..

LOL... My husband just said that she had red eyes,lol. I looked again when she was awake and they are red! I love her she is such a little sweetie. I couldn't believe all the little babies they had up there for adoption. You just had to make a little donation of three dollars. They had fancy male rats and a DEH female gerbil. I really wanted the little female gerbil but I didn't have a friend for her and they still didn't have any females gerbils for me to purchase.
