Personally I think western is easier. I don't like english. I only ride western and bareback. But differerent styles suit different people.
You would probably have to try them both and then see what one you like best.

People tend to think Western is easier because the saddle tends to cradle your butt and hold you on the horse more. (Which is why they use western saddles on trail rides and for beginners)
English riding prepares you to hold your own balance in the saddle without anything to hold on to. It is more difficult, but once you learn your seat, you can stay on the horse without grabbing a saddle horn or reins, just using your muscles in your legs.

Ok this is all new to me, but how is western different from English, is it just the way you ride? or the clothing you wear? my guess is that for English you wear jodhpurs and breeches and for Western you wear cowboy boots and chaps..? i dunno...
I think i'm doing English, its kinda hard but I'm getting better at it..:D :D :D

If your taught both properly, they are about equally difficult. The equipment is different in Western than in English and the sports are different. The basics are the same though, you've got to move with the horse no matter what he's doing in both styles.

Western is probably the easiest way to ride. English is somewhat harder. If you have a good bomb-proof horse try riding bareback. It hard but I think it is alot of fun. It also strengthens your legs so in the end it will make it easier to ride english.

I totally agree, bareback (even at a walk for beginners) will help you strengthen your legs and give you a better seat/balance on the horse. It will build your confidence also!

Hey
I prefer to ride bareback. It's just the way I like to ride. Except I have one little problem. My dad, he doesn't like me around horses. I Usually don't get alot of chances to ride bareback. But it's so much fun. I learned to ride bareback. I don't think antone could have taught me how to ride beter than my horse did. I want to get into barrel racing but I think that would be just a bit hard to do bareback, don't you think? lol I think my dad will have to get use to me riding because one day I am going to ride rough stock It just seems like alot of fun to me. Don't know why. Just does.
Talk to you later

I know this has nothing to do with riding but I was kinda lazy to put a new post, anyways when I brush some horses at equine center like 2 of them dont like it even if I use soft brush and use it very gently, sometimes theyre trying to pin me to the wall.. lol, squish me with its behind... and one tried to kick me with its hind leg.. its kinda scary now..lol but I'm very careful around those brats!! lol..
Why do horses do that? Should i just leave them alone?
Thanks..:agree:

You don't want to just leave it alone. Is there anyone at the stable that can stand in the stall with you that is an experienced "horse-person?" If there is have them help you. To you yourself become experienced with horses have an experienced person with you when you ar working with horses like that. What's it's history like? Was it born at that stable? Are these horses like this to other people?
I would say just get a soft rag, not a brush of any sort atleast not yet. Rub it over the horse while talking to it. Talk to it very softly. It should come around. If I knew the answers to the questions above I could probably help you alittle bit better.
Some horses are like that. If you can tell me it's history I might be able to answer your question. Was the horse ever mistreated in any way, even a minor way?
Hope this helps

Barrel Racing is when you have 3 barrel set up in a triangular shape. and you run around them. It's a timed event so who ever get the fastest time wins, so naturally you would want to win. If you want to learn morse about it go to www.barrelracing.com (I think that's what it is).
Roping is alittle tricky. You would be better off not doing it until you can get a pro roper to help you. With roping you can get hurt pretty easy. I wouldn't reccomend roping until you know exactly what you are doing. Have someone teach you but start roping on the ground and then try it at a walk on a bomb proof roper.

Hmm, I really dont know the history of the horses there... but the owner gets them from a horse dealer.. and yes that same horse tries to do the same to the person who rides her... other horse that does that too, also scratches his teeth its looks funny, he just goes up and down against the wood with his teeth like theyre itching... I dont think the horses have been mistreated where I work , but maybe from previous owner..

Well I'm English so that's how I ride. :D Never ridden Western but bareback is fun unless you have a very old and bony pony!
I also used to be a trainee jockey so can race ride.
For the horses - sounds like they have a tickly spot and the brushes feel like a fly landing on them (there reaction is to bite or kick them away before they get bitten by the fly)
Simpleist solution is to tie the horses up and use a very gentle cloth on them areas and praise them when there quiet.

Everyone makes a wierd face at me when I say this, but i think bareback is the easiest, and the most fun. when you have enough practice you can jump, go cross country, gallop... do everything just as easy as with a saddle. and it builds up better communication and understainding with your horse if you ride without saddle or bridle, or at least in a amore

i do wanna ride bareback, but i need to get just teh riding down. I did it for like 2 weeks and all teh instructors said i would be a great rider cause i bonded with the horses the first time i ride them. They mostly let me ride on one certain horse though, because of that bond. most people were scared of him cause he was so tall, and i wasnt. even wehn he was stung by a bee i mangaged to keep him in controll so i could get off.

I agree with you totally, Balldoyle. that is so cool. Personally, I like english, partly cause you can jump and partly cause it's so much easiar to carry and tack up!!!;)
