Go to hamsterific. Read all the site information. Read everything under hamsterific U. Go onto the forum adn read everything under the important information section. If there's anything you don't know by the time you read all that, then feel free to ask specific questions! Congrats on your soon-to-be hammy!

i have one advice to give you...dont buy crittertrail cages...i know alot of people like them and they're pretty
(and people will probably disagree with me)
but they're pain in the ass to clean, tend to be a bit on a small side, and most of those cages dont have a good air supply going through them so your hammy will be more likely got get resp infection

I agree with you about the Crittertrail cages. I bought one for my previous hamster, because it looked so cute, and I got several of the attachments for it. ($$$$) It was a pain to take apart and clean, and it felt like it was about to break every time. Worst of all, my hamster got a respiratory infection when he was only 6 months old, and despite multiple vet visits & medications, I still lost him. I've had quite a few hamsters in the past, and I've never had this happen before. I think it was due to poor ventilation in the Crittertrail cage, especially in the petting zone, where he loved to sleep. I'm afraid to use that cage anymore.

I think that one of the best things you can do for your hammie is get him the biggest cage you can. Some of the cages in pet shops are so tiny and its easy to see why hamsters get bored and just chew the bars all the time, trying to get out. I couldn't stand seeing my hamster do that, so I bought him a huge cage with 3 floors and now he hardly ever chews the bars.

i agree with you 100%...the bigger the cage the better...i mean, hamsters spend a lot of time in the cage...you want them to have as much room as possible so they can be happy
my hamster is in a cage that has 3 levels too...she loves it.

what about aquariums?

aquariums are even worse ventilation wise and they're too small and not wide enough for syrian hamsters...
AND they're boring...some hamster like to climb a lot.

does the bottle have to have a ball point tip? I also know that the bottle should not be big right?

It doesn't really matter about the size of the bottle cos you'll need to give him fresh water every day anyway. They dont usually drink much, especially if you give them some "watery" vegetable (like cucumber) everyday.
