wood 2 x 4's in house -- question!!!???

This seems like a dumb question, but here I go.

My mom brought over some 2 X 4s and boards for our attic, and we stored them behind the couch. I didn't think anything about it then, but now I can smell wood smell REALLY strong. I love the smell, BUT will it hurt my Spice hamster to smell it?? She has aspen as usual in her cage but does the actual odor of the wood in the room hurt their lungs? Or is that only if it's inside her cage?

If you can smell it, it can bother her. I assume this is pine boards? They really smell. I'd move her cage to another room or store the wood elsewhere.

is it the smell that causes respiratory problems? or the dust from the shavings?
