Help!!!!!!please!!!!!

I got a red eared slider as a free gift from a T-Shirt shop in Fla...Ive had box turtles and such before, but never one of these. I bought a book but this little guy is wierd, he doesnt seem to like the water, stays on his log, He eats good, but the "treats" they suggest in the book are apparently not his taste. Ive read lots via the internet on the red eared slider, but Im still concerned. I love animals and want him to be as happy, content and healthy as the rest of my zoo!!! If you have any suggestions, comments or advice, please drop me a line at daynacummings@charter.net ps...hes about 1 and half inches long...anyone know how old he might be?????

i have 2 red eared sliders they are both 3 n 1/2 inches long they started out lyk urs..how much water do u have in the tank? lyk the height of the water..he mite just lyk to stay on land for a while my turtles were lyk that until they were older..no i dunno how old ur turtle mite b..sry..i feed my turtles Wardley Turtle Delite and Wardley Reptile Sticks..good luck with ur new turtle!

Hey, thanks for the help...I changed his tank today, went to petsmart and got stuff to make it exactly like a picture I saw, he swam alot, then buried himself in the dry area gravel ( large gravel). I feed him tetrafauna ReptoMin for small turtles,newts and frogs...theres a turtle on the bottle that looks just like him. The water is about 1 n half inches deep now, it was a little shallower before. one spot on his shell is really dark...do you know what that might be?? it was like that when he was given to me, but Im still curious. Again, thank you for responding!!!

hey good to hear hes swimmin! my turtles tank has large gravel rocks too..did u have gravel in the tank b4?..no sry i dunno wat the dark spot mite b..its probably nothin to worry about one of my turtle has really dark shell..so mayb ur turtle mite just have a dark spot for no reason:D

no...I had regular aquarium gravel...and they were just piled up on one side for him to get out on. I dug him out and put him in the water today and he swam alot again...do I need to do this everyday???does he forget the water is there???do I have a crazy turtle???:weyes: anyway...thanks for replying, I asked my vet today if he knew about turtles, he didnt. The pet store dosent know alot either...so here is my only hope!!!

i think you should just leave him alone until he wants to come out because my trutles lyk to bury themselves n they just come out wenever they feel lyk it n also wen i feed them:D no i dont think you have a crazy turtle! my turtles climb the little tree i have in their tank n sun themselves up there even tho i have a log fo them... they sometyms use the log hehe:EL:
