Blow in his face. Literally, "puff" at him when he bites and in a firm, but not loud, voice say "no!" You can train gerbils not to bite. Babies mouth and taste and it's a natural part of growing up. Adults should never bite unless they're feeling completely threatened. For more info on this and other gerbil behaviors, visit www.agsgerbils.org or the National Gerbil Society (UK). Both have excellent resources!! Good luck!

Gerbils will nip if your hands smell like something tasty. To prevent being "tasted", always wash your hands before handling your gerbils. It's a good idea to wash your hands afterwards, too. Did you properly socialize and tame your gerbils? Gerbils will bite and nip if they are not tamed enough. Don't handle the gerbils roughly. Scoop them up with both hands gently and avoid the tail. The tail is fragile and can fall off if it is improperly handled.
