In the morning kitty is fed and he immediately attempts to eat as much of his dish as possible without chewing. He is fed a full cup of medi-cal food each morning. He then proceeds to throw it up. Why does he do this to himself?

did you just get him?
we got 2 kitties from a shelter. one was a give [kiko] and the other was turned in a stray[suki]. kiko eats normal. suki eats a lot. sometimes she eats so much she starts crying with a belly ache. she never throws up tho.. i suspect that maybe when suki was homeless she didnt have food all the time.. so now that she does she hogs it down.

kittens tend to eat to much anyways.
Is medi-cal a medicinal cat food? is it a dry or wet cat food? does he get free fed a quality cat food? He may just be really hungry. Cats don't sleep when we do, so he is probably roaming around at night when you sleep looking for food.

One of mine does this ocassionally as well when he eats too much too fast. It might be beneficial for you to split his meals into several small meals.

yes medi cal is a well known, good vet food around here in Canada.
good idea to split up the meals

Personally, I'm a big fan of Natura's products. They make Innova, California Natural, Healthwise & EVO.

california natural is pretty good, but natural balance keeps my cats fur very nice, shiny and them in very good health.

I love Natural Balance for my cats too...forgot to mention that one. I was just as happy with it as I was with Innova.

Get that cat to the vet if he does this often. It can be a sign that something is wrong inside of him. I don't want to allarm you, but a vet check offers the best piece of mind!

I was thinking that too, could be a sign that his food isn't digesting correctly and he is eating because he is literally starved...but once he tries to fill that void that digestion upset occurs and he throws up...he wouldn't be getting any nutrition and could be starving....I would see a vet just in case!!!!!!

if he throws up immediately and none of the food is digested yes this could be the problem. There could be something wrong with his esophagus...if it is digested a little. try the split meals thing
