I hate to burst your bubble .Just because you have a male and female does not mean they are going to mate. First do you have a nesting box. Do the birds get along with each other. I had a male and female Bugie and they didn't mate. they tolerated each other

True It Does Not Mean They Will Mate, And Are You Ready For Chicks Really? Are You Breeding Them For Fun... Because If You Are There Are Already Alot Of Birds In Shelters That Need Homes.

He did say That they "might", he did NOT say that they will. He could always keep the chicks, or give them to his local pet store for store credit. I'm sure he would find a good home for them.

First of all, I would not immediately put them in the same cage together. Birds just because they are of the same species, does not mean they will get along. I would introduce them gradually. And I would not breed them just because they will. There are too many birds that are in sanctuaries and rescues that needs good homes, without bringing more into the world. I think their concern is a valid one. Just because they get taken to the petstore, they will get a good home. Where do you think the birds who are in sacturaries and rescues came from?

I really am happy for you that you are getting the cockatiel from your grama. I hope it all works out and she is much happier with you. I just hope that you concentrate more on enjoying her company, than whether they breed. Good Luck!

I canät really understand why anyone that calles themselves a breeder would want to give chicks to a petstore of all places. Those things should not even sell animals.
I have a 3-page form that every potential buyer needs to fill in. When that is done, i visit them, talk to them in person to see how they are like. One other demand is that they have, or is going to get another bird of the same specie.
In return for this effort they get a tame bird, alot of information, toys from when they grew up, food they are used to, and advise from me when they need it.
The truth is that petstores now very little about birds, or other animals. I've worked in several ones.
They know the basics, that when it comes to birds isn't even true anymore. Like "Parrots need grit, bla bla bla."

If you do not have a genuin interest in the birds, they are in TOP conditions, are generally good birds that are healthy, and have good genes, give them good food, care for them in a proper way, then you can breed them.
And breeding isn't just fun, but can, and probaly will be very hard work.

Great that you are getting another cockatiel!
I would not breed on a male that has sat in a cage for two years, though. Give him time to get into shape, bond with his new buddy, and stuff like that.
Go to the vet and get them checked up, and if they are nice birds, healthy and so on, then you might start thinking about breeding them. Make sure you have read alot, talked with experienced breeders and such, then i am sure everything will work out great!

Take care!
