our cat (14 year old) clicks the carpet alot, we stop her doing it but she seems to do it when we are out of the house and its causing damage.

we are buying a new house with new carpets etc soon, so dont want the new carpet ruined.

she wont use a scratching post.

anyway i found that if i clip her claws she doesnt click any more, but i done it 2 weeks ago and they had got pointy again and she has started clicking, so should i clip them again? it seems too soon!

really it depends on the rate of how fast your cat's nails grow. i personally have to clip mine every three weeks but that is because they also use a scratching post. that 'clicking' noise is her nails hitting the floor/carpet and if you have to do it every two weeks you have to do it every two weeks.

I clip my cats claws very 2 weeks because I dont like their claws getting caught in my clothes... they arent furniture scratchers and they also use a scratching post so... but I do it every 2 weeks.

I clip Frodo's claws every 2 weeks also. A little time investment, makes the occasional scratch a little less deep. :)

cheers everyone, looks like 2 weeks it is then! she is usually very gentle when walking on me but she does slip now and then and dig the claws in, usually into my nether regions :o

I just set my cats on their backs and they sit calmly while I clip away... I really think that they could care less
