Quick Help!!!

My best friend just called me, she found a bird being attacked by a dog and scared off the dog. The bird is not bleeding, just lost some feather from its body, but can't seem to fly, it can just hop around some. She lives in a dorm so she can not keep it. I need to know first, if this birds wing is broken, is there really anything that can be done to help it so it can be released back to the wild? Also, if I do keep it, what do I feed it? bugs? seed? I don't know what type it is, she said it was smaller then a robin and plan looking, I'm thinking some type of finch? HELP!! Any info would be great at this point.

you have to take it to a wild animal rescue. even though you probably can't see it, the bird may have puncture wounds, and cat and dog saliva in a wound can kill a bird because they are full of bacteria. the broken wing may be able to heal, but unless your a vet tech, i doubt you would be able to set it right. the bird needs x-rays and professional care to live.

call your local vet offices to find out where the closest wildlife rehabilitators are.

Thanks everyone. I am in school to be a vet tech, but I don't feel comfortable enough to do anything yet. We called a Wildlife Center and they are going to take it. I appreciate all your info.
