honestly, i would probably just chw on the edges (it is a bird cage right?). I would suggest a bin cage, and maybe "dome" some 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch wire mesh and create doors and levels (no cloth, they can pouch it and it can get stuck) with some chain, S hooks, and cardboard, plexi glass, or letter holders.
