How often can you safely breed dwarf hampsters?

I think you can safely breed them when they are about 2-3 months old, and for maybe 2 litters (not back to back) without putting their health in danger. But I'm not to up to date on dwarfs.

So Why Do You Want To Breed Them Anyways?

I bred 2 litters back to back (not intentionally). I didn't know that she had babies the first time, and Napoleon humped her up before I knew, and she had a 2nd litter. Now they are about 3 weeks old and she isn't pregnant again. I was wondering if I could go ahead and let her get pregnant again this soon, or how long I would need to wait?

what are you going to do with all these hamsters?

Obviously, E Burna, you missed the first response which was "two litters".

Why do you even bother asking questions here? Every time someone has given you advice, you've blown them off. You obviously don't care much about the wellbeing of your animals.

I just don't see how it can be "two litters" when Deb has already HAD 2 litters, and I've only had her for like 5 months. She spit out 2 litters in like a month once she had her initial first litter. Why can't I have her spit one out every month or so?

Lets have you spit out a kid every freakin year and see how well YOUR health is.

It is bad for her health, the more litters she has, the more her health will go down, It is hard on their bodies to constantly be nursing, pregnant, or being "pursued"

I thought you were looking for homes for the hamsters you already have? Why do you want more? I hope it isn't to feed to your snakes.Don't breed her no more, it is very hard on there bodies.

I don't mind breeding, but I don't want to kill her either. Would she actually die from breeding a few extra litters? Anyone have any actual experience of this either first hand or through someone they actually knew?

No, she would not die, but if someone beat the crap out of you, you wouldn't die either.

It puts extra added stress on her body that does not need to be there. If you chose to put it there then there is a chance she could get sick.

just stop breeding and let your pets be PETS. for your kids. from what you've told us, your kids have more common sense and heart than you.

In theory, I could have a kid every 9 months as soon as I hit physical maturity. Just as it's not good for humans, it's not good for animals either. Animals use a lot of their nutrient stores for pregnancies, and females can actually die from having too many litters. They'll deplete all the nutrients in their bodies and die from deficiencies.

Responsible breeders (in just about every species) draw the line at two litters, and try to leave room in between for the mother to recover from the first litter. :)

How about breeding them ONLY when there are no more unwanted, abandoned, and unloved hamsters needing rescue?

Almost all my animals are rescues.

Stop the breeding.

But I do not expect RESPONSIBILITY from you - someone who on these forums advocated SHAVING hamsters in warm weather.

I do not believe this person is an adult. She/he sounds about 12, or less.
