I'm thinking of buying a winter white hamster but I'm not sure whether to buy a male or female. Is there any characteristic difference between the two? If I buy more than one, which group get along better, males or females?

It's going to be my first hamster. Appreciate advice.

It really depends on the hamster its self. Before i got my russian dwarf(they have many things in common with winter whites)i read and heard that it is better to get males because females can be real aggresive. Not at all in my case my female was more go lucky than my male was. And it was even the same with their litter the females wanted to play while the males wanted to be alone.SO in other words its mainly on the hamster let it be the way it was treated or has lived.

I have two groups - one males and one female. They are all from the same two litters with their moms. Females (and moms) in one habitat; males in the other. There seems to be a bit more squabbling in the female bin - but that may only be due to there being a coupld adults in there; the males I got were obviously, all young.

So, I don't think it matters. But I enjoy groups of them. I assumed they would get along better being from the same litter, and I think I was right about that.

I would say males. Are male we had was so nice! Females can be aggressive and nippy.
