Hi,
My dwarf hamster just had 5 babies, her first litter. Well its been a day and the 4 of them look healthy, but there was one that was out of the nest about an inch and the mother found it just now witch is like 30 hours from them being born and put it back in. It doesn't look like its alive but yet she hasnt eaten it. how do i tell if its alive or going to live. Im worried about it. The other babies are very healthy and when Sugar(the mother) isnt around they all squeek like you couldnt imagin. Are they calling for her? the other one that wassnt in the nest the first while isnt moving or squeeking. :( It looks smaller, and doesnt respond to the touch from the mother or the other babies. Im very worried, could someone more experianced please help me. I love all of them very much and i wouldnt want to see the one die, i want them all to be healthy. If anyone can help please message back ASAP. Thank you

the babies move a LOT, if that one isnt movingat all, it could be dead already.

Did you breed it yourself? If it is dead leave it, inless you can get to it with out disterbing the other babies. If the mom feels threaten she may eat all the other babies.

No, to answer your question i did not breed her myself, when i bought her from the pet store she was already pregnant. And as for the dead one, when she goes to run in her wheel if i can get it without touching the other babies im going to with a spoon. Because i peered through the bottom of the cage becauser its transparent and it is moved out of the nest again so im going to give it a try.

Well, it turns out that it wassnt the baby that was dead it was just a dark spot so now i can't find the dead one. Its not in the nest, i know that for sure. Im wondering, could the mother eat the whole baby, it was the size it was when its first born. I can't find it since i saw it in the nest last night. Could it just be gone or would the mother move it, she had no interest yesterday in eating it, i watched her clean it just like it was alive like the other babies, mabey she is confused? well if anyone has info then please tell me. Im rather lost in this. I wish i could have saved the baby :( . But thats nature i guess. Well if anyone can help at all please tell me.
Oh and the cage is getting dirty because i didn't know she was going to have babies i didn't clean it or give her extra nutrients. Should i hardboil an egg and give the mother peices of it. I heard it helps her lactate and it gives her protiens.
Also right now my other hamster is becoming more unfriendly, Sinnamin is her name, but shes sleeping more, and she trys to bite me every time i reach into the cage, could it be because i moved her and she doesnt like the cage, or is she lonly, or should i not handle her for a while and just gvive her time to recuperate from moving and leaving her friend in the other cage. Any tips for making her happier would help, i love both my hamies, well all 6 of them now very much, and i want to take the best care of them i can. So any things i should buy or go and get or just tips would be much appreated. Thank you.
