I have a gerbil that was first bleeding and then balding around the nose. I checked out the forums and several people had the same problem. I checked it out and found this website:
http://www.v-e-t-s.co.uk/gerbils.htm

If you have the same problem, please, check this out. I think I discovered the problem with my own gerbil.

Good site. Worth bookmarking.

It seems the site is saying that with proper bedding (no cedar or pine), no bedding they MIGHT develop allergies to (sometimes aspen), and with prompt application of antibiotic creme to the nose, the condition is easily treatable. But if it is let go, big problems may result. Right?

My youngest has the same problem - we're on antibiotic creme and we use sand & shredded toiled paper for bedding for the time being. That's since last wednesday when I got him. How long does usually such a treatment last?

sorry, I have only the answers I read on the website... Belina, was teh creme prescribed by the vet, or did you purchase it at a store, feed back is important! The condition of teh gerbil is improving with the addition of aspen bedding, a sand bath, and regular cleaning of the area with neosporn, but I don't know if that will be enough...

Katana, the creme was given to me by the vet. I use sand & shredded toilet paper for bedding for the time being.
