Are you being kind to your 4 legged friend? I walk my dog, "Brandy" every day for an hour when I get home from work. Some days its hard as the weather is cold, or I am just tired but when I look at Brandy, so happy to see me, it just makes it all worthwhile. We when its hot, cold, rain, wind, below zero, snow, whatever we are out there! On the weekends we I have more time I walk him 2-3 times a day. He enjoys it and so do I.

I think brandy is really lucky to have you as his owner.

I walk my dog often but not everyday. He is a chihuahua and a really small in size. An hour of walk? I think my dog is unable to take the long walk. He usually starts panting after about 15 minutes of walk. But he is really happy and when we return home, he will be so tired that he sleeps the rest of the day through.

On weekends, if there are some dogs show going on, I will bring him along. Some times, we will go to the beach for lots of fun times and usually, he will just chase some birds and run around, getting himself all sandy.

Walking is good form excerise for dogs. The period of walking sessions varies a lot depending on breed and age. If your dog is still puppies, a short walk of 15 mins will do. For older dog, a time frame of 30 mins will do also. Let them walk and run as what they want. As for long haired dogs, slightly shorter time frame should given.

Like I said, I walk Brandy an hour or more a day. He is 6 years old and loves his special hour walk with me. We run and power walk and slow down towards the end of our walk. A 20 minute walk would not do for him. lol. My hubby also takes him in the morning for about 1/2 hour. Good exercise makes a healthy and happy dog!

Brandy is very lucky indeed that you have the time to walk him every day. Myself with 3 boys, ages 4,8 and 12 I sometimes find it hard to be able to take time to go to the bathroom. LOL Actually today I took 4 year old on bike and Zuse for a walk. We were gone about an hour. This is something that I have only done a few times since we got him a couple of months ago. I am going to try to fit it a couple of walks like this a week anyway until the weather gets too cold. If anyone would like to see Zuse He is now in the photo Gallery. #8

I have two dogs, and both are larger breeds. Mac is a 2 year old rottweiler/lab mix, and Zeus is a 1 year old boxer/pit mix. They love their walk whether they go together or alone. I usually walk mine for about a half an hour every day. I would love to go for longer periods but they both pant heavily (it's very hot here) and I don't want to make them too uncomfortable! I have recently started walking them late in the evening when it's cooler, and hopefully I can increase to hour walks!

I have a 15 month old Newfoundland that gets walked twice a day - every day - rain, shine, snow, etc. She gets a 20 minute or so walk in the morning and 30-45 minutes in the evening depending on the weather. If it's too hot, she goes for a good swim. She is my faithful exercise partner :sun:

Sarge is my baby, he is about 10 weeks old and I do attempt to walk him daily but we are learning how to walk with a leash and he is sort of nervous when I leave the yard area. In fact I have to carry him past our yard to get him walking. Thank goodness he is still a puppy. He is a rottweiler. But he is getting better at it with training. In the meantime I can walk him around my yard numerous times and run and play with him in the yard. Although he hates rain big time. He cries when it is raining and he has to go potty. The way I see it the more he walks and plays the more I walk and play. But since he is a puppy we are working on it and startin in less then two weeks he starts puppy kindergarten, so lots of exercises there. It is funny seeing him walk up stairs cuz he is so tiny yet. Also the cats exercise him too since he is part cat. He chases stuffed mice and bats at the cats. Soon I will be able to take him on long walks and our mission is to walk him three times a day. Once in the morning once after school and once before bedtime. Soon he will come willing, I hope. lol :lovestruc

I try to walk Molly each day. Sometimes it's really hot outside, especially in the summer, so on those days I only go for a quick walk. If it's really nice out we go for a long walk, that usually takes about 30 minutes, and everyone gets a treat after that. ;) Or if I have a friend over, and she goes home when it's dark out, I walk her home and take Molly with me. She doesn't get many walks in the winter because she HATES the snow, and it's hard enough to get her outside to go to the bathroom.

The great part is that Molly is excellent on a leash. Sure, there are a few times when we pass someone's house and their dog starts going crazy and barking at us, and Molly will pull a little, but I expect that. I was walking my neighbors dog and he kept pulling me in other people's yard so he could pee. :rolleyes1

My dog is Lazy! lol
If it's raining she won't go (I live in Vancouver, city of rain lol), she dosn't like to go out when it's hot either... lol She rather be inside sitting on her couch watching her gerbils. Whizz is 6, and we've had her for 6 months now, She plays all day in our large back yard with her two buddies, and in the evenings we go for a walk around the neighbor hood. Though our favorite walks are the ones when we go camping or drive to a park or forest. She loves jumping over logs in the bush.
Just recently she's learned about swimming, she won't swim to much nor go to deep, but she's getting braver.

Oh my dog is so lazy, when we go camping she jumps up on our ATV for a ride... lol :p (I wish i had a pic. b/c it's so cute)

I love my dogs to death, but sometimes I admit, the dog walking thing gets to me. I have to take all three out, seeing as how my older sister doesn't cooperate at all, and if she does, she takes the dogs down two steps on the driveway and comes back in. My dogs get walked on a minimum of 7 or 8 times a day. My dad takes them to the polo fields sometimes for like 3 hours, so after that, they're pretty much set for the rest of the day, but when he doens't, we wind up taking them out like 8,9, or 10 times a day. They also get alot of patio times during the day. My dad takes them to his office where theres stairs and balls and chairs and stuff for them to play with.
