two of my male dwarfs got into a scuffle. they were caged together and fine. today i put them in their playpen to play. they started fighting and one bit the other and drew blood. he bit me too with i seperated them. do you think he needs to see the vet?

If it drew blood then watch the wound, if it swells or gets infected deffenatly take him to the vet, if not then its probablly fine, but keep a close eye. Try putting mesh down the middle of the cage with food and water on both sides, so they cant fight but can still smell eachother, leave it like that for about 5 days and put them back together if they fight then repeat, they might be stoborn dwarfs, witch i find the males usually are. My ...ex dwarf hammies that i lost a year ago they fought all the time so i couldnt keep them together in a cage but outside the cage they were fine together they played and froliced, it was a teritorial thing, they were also both male, so just watch the wound if it gets any signs of worse bring him to the vet, its usually no much more than $20 to see the vet anyway and they will keep your hammy safe. For now, see how they are and clean the wound with some hydrogen peroxide but a very small amount. The hammy might squeel but it usually helps. Best of luck to you and your bity hammies. :)

At least get some hydrogen peroxide, or better yet bacitracin ointment, on the wound.

I have no idea how serious the wound is.

Perhaps they need more space and a bigger habitat? maybe each needs their own hide box and wheel. I use small Comfort Wheels. Everyone has their own "space" and there are plenty of things and toys to alleviate overcrowding.

im not taking any chances. i had an extra cage i separated them. the thing is.. the play pen is a huge fence type thing that i put various toys in so they can run about and ish. thats where the fight took place. i have a couple idea plans to expand for them theres just never enough hours in a day. i finally rearranged my room so i have more space for both my rats and hamsters. so i can start on their cages. the rats are in a 20 gallon tank which i can use for some of the hamsters once i get the rats a bigger home. and i wanted to make some bin cages.

im going to try some bacitracin or whatever.
