I had a short haired girl named Sofie and a long haired boy named Pepper.
I was baby sitting a 2 year old cousina t like 10:30 at night and I was tired and the little kid came in my room and un clipped Sofie's cage. I ran ina fter him and closed it back. Then we both fell asleep on the couch in our living room. His mom came to get himand I went to sleep in my bed. When I woke up I turned over to see my littl eSOfie dead next to my head. She had gotten out because I had not closed it all the way or something. She had gotten stuck on my bed post poles trying ot get to me. I cried forever.

The next month Pepper started acting lazy and tired all the time. I asked my dad to take me to the vet for Pepper's sake but he said no way was he takina a stupid 8 dollar hamster to the vet. I git really mad at him for saying that because I dont like when people call animals stupid. And the next day I came home from school and Pepper would not move. I tried wakeing him up and puting food by him do he would smell it but nothing worked. I skipped softball practice to stay with him. He eventually stoped breathing and I covered him up so he wouldnt get cold. I cried again.

I never found out what was wrong because I just joined this amazingly helpfull site.

They are both baried side by side under my bedroom window. I really miss them. :( :hamster3:

Awww...sorry to hear that. :( Chin-up...I know it's a hard thing to lose a pet, but it sounds like you were a good owner and they had a good life. How old were they when they passed away? Maybe you can get another hamster when you're ready to.

I hope you have the money for a water turtle (most common one is the Red eared slider). They require large tanks, basking areas, and UVB lighting (which is usually expensive). And if your father wouldn't take hammies to the vet (and that is expensive) think about how expensive it will be to take a turtle to the vet.

sapphire wasnt rude at all, in fact i agree. Turtles require A LOT of care, since you were six when you had your last one, i'm assuming YOU werent taking care of it...and they live a LOOONG time...what happened to it?
sapphire was just saying to REALLY think about it first and plan it out.
and your 'so what ev.' attitude is not exactly mature either. Are you sure you're ready for such a commitment?

I DID take care of my own turtle and as a matter of fact I had 2 turtles! They DID live a long time and the only reason I dont still have them is because we had to move and I had to give them away! SO please do not attempt to insalt my intellagence of taking care of my animals because it has been and always will be my LIFE! I know what I'm doing and I dont need people bringing me down! And I will stick my "what ev." attitude because that is who I am.

No need to freak out. The people here just want to make sure you know what you're getting into and that the turtles will be looked after.

Far too often new people will come to Petshub claiming they had done all their research only to find out they have a cage too small, animals together that shouldn't be, refuse to take their animal to the vets claiming they have more money (but apparently they did 2 months ago when they got their pet), etc. For example a month ago in the Hedgie form someone said they no longer loved Hedgehogs cause all they did was poop and sleep so he decided that a Chinchilla would make a perfect pet. People tried warning him that chins are always pooping but he wouldn't listen. 3 Days after getting his chin he was back complaining how much he hated his new chin because it was always hiding room him and other stuff that people warned him again. He then started making numerous threads about how he wanted to kill and eat his chin before he was finally banned. *That's* what people are trying to avoid. They were just telling the truth about turtles. When I ask for info about an animal I haven't had or haven't had since I was a child (because a lot of the info has changed since then) I expect people to be blunt with me telling me the good and bad things I'd need to know.

All you had to do was nicely reply that you know about turtles and had to give yours away because of a move.
