they may just be really lazzy hamster, that's how cooki was untill i started getting her out. Do you have somewhere that you could make sure they cant get into trouble.. get out -into wholes, cracks, eat anything they arn't suppose to. cords, cords make sure those are out of reach. hamsters eat anything they can!! set up toys and hide treats for them to find. Make it fun time something for them to wake up and be looking forward to. have a room i set up for Cooki to play in, she was so lazy before and i was so woried, now she is up like she is suppose to be and she waites for me to get her out. Now if you miss a day they may get mad at you, lol Cooki does and i had to find that out she kept nipping me and didn't want to be picked up. untill a couple more times in her runa round made up for it. <MAKE IT FUN> :)

btw here is her run around -

you can put alot more stuff in and it doesn't have to be that big of an area, just something they can run around, oh hamster pruff. Research "hamster pruffing your house" so you know how to.

by you 'just got' them, what do you mean? they could be just a little scared...also, hamsters are nocturnal...you just dont see them up.

have you started taming them? as far as they know there's no reason for them to come up much....you gotta tame them and bribe their love with treats. lol

Fluff...thats a cool set up. I just let my hammy run around and my dog watches her lol

I just got them on saterday....So ivebeen allowing them to just get used to their cage setup....
Ive tried to put treats on my hand and let them take them...but they just aren't interested.
Also...they are dwarf hamsters...so I thought that they'd be more active than they are acting now.

haha, my dog would eat her... :eek2: and yes i do see your point, just dont give them so many treats they get really fat and unhealthy. i take it that these are dwarfs i'm hoping!! they should come out around 6-7 p.m. depending on the hamster and up at night not in the morning... afternoon

So what am I to do?
Shall I wait.
They arent out now...infact....I have not seen then all day.
Actually now that tI think of it...One did come out for a snack around 12 but took it and went striaght back into her box.
Im so sad :( I cannot tame them unless they comeout to play....and they seem unwilling.
Should I take away the box? they have other tubs and stuff...but i fear i will never see them or play with them.
They never fun on the weel either.
Im confused.

get them out and interact with them outside of there cage like i was saying. They could be waiting for you to play also just like you are with them.. :D  ;)

I have 2 dwarf hamsters and 7 babies, they do get up but for the first ew days they would not come to me and would not do anything, you should take them out get a rubber glov3e or a tube and put it around them they are curious little cratures and they most liely will try to climb in. watch out if they arnt tame they will bite. My male is really lazy intill you let him out. He runs around in his ball with joy, if you don't have one seriously consider investing in a dwarf hamster ball. They love to run around and its pretty safe for them. But to do this make sure you do this slowly, if they bite over and over again and wkeep sleeping leave them a few days usually about 3 and then pick them up again and try and feed them treets and let them run around but watch them at all times, the door to my hamster ball is taped shut every time because its come off befor and scared me cause i couldnt find my hammy, but luckily i did. You should just be patient, but take them out and inspect them. All sides because they could be ill if they are sleeping that much and not running in the wheel. Have you tryed manually putting them in the wheel and seeing if they run on it, even if its only for a second they will get the idea of what its for and pretty soon you'll be annoyed because they are running in them all night long. Hope some of this helps. If you have anymore questions just ask there are LOTS of helpful people here and they will be glad to help you out.

Yeah, don't worry too much about the little hammies not getting up. Once you start playing with them, they'll associate you with treats and "time out of the cage" and they'll start changing their sleep patterns. When I first got my dwarf hamsters they were the same way, the only time they'll get up was around 1-2am... but now they're up whenever I'm there...they'll climb upto the door of the cage and look at me with their beady little eyes asking to be taken out. It'll just take a little bit of time. Don't worry! And keep trying! Good luck! :P

Ok so I took them out for play time and I have a really bad feeling about what happened.
One of them came out...must have been awake in her box she looked round and healthy and energetic.
But her smaller sister didnt look good. Shes always been smaller but she looked listless and not energetic at all.. I gave her 15 minutes to wake up and she did look better but still not as energetic and healthy and curious as her sister. She also wouldnt eat any treats or drink any water ( Im unsure if she just wasnt hungry because she ate before as I found alot of seeds and such stored in their box).
Has this happened to anyone before?
Otherwise her eyes look clear and her coat looks clean and groomed (signs of good health?).
I took their box out and just left tubes so I can keep a closer eye on them.
But how long should I wait??
Or is this just normal for some small babies?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Also the smaller one does not look as nimble as her sister (clumsier).

you know, my hamster wasnt all that active...she would only wake up around midnight...until i moved her to a BIG cage. She was in a 3 level cage but she didnt seem to like going up on higher levels so i put her in a big cage with lots of floor room (its a 2 level cage) and she became VERY active...She is up A LOT now lol i'm actually a bit worried that she might not be sleeping enough lol
so maybe if you have another cage around, a bigger one, you could try that.

If hammies are as much like humans as I think. You can warm the ear that you think is infected and see if it soothes her. I know that if I get a ear infection that a heating pad always works.

I was thinking that but they are so small.
I'm leaving them along and to their own devices for the rest of the night.
Her sister, who seems to be perfectly fine is snuggling with her head and it seems to be comforting her. They have been together the whole time so I feel if the other one isnt sick yet she;s probably resistant, and they are both going to the vet tomorrow so...
Wish stella and artois luck :)
Thanks for all the imput, anymore will be greatly appreciated as I will be staying up the night to watch them.

I took Artois to the vet...she has an inner ear infection.
Unfortunartly Stella and Artois had to be seperated.
I hope when Artois is better they can be reunited....if not...I hope that they arent lonely

Well its been a while...but i guess someone posted recently so ill fill you all in.
Artois had an inner ear infection and had to be seperated from her sister Stella. When she was finally better she and Stella no longer got along and I didnt have room for two large cage set ups at school. Sooo....Artois now lives happily with my brother and Stella lives with me.
Stella seems very happy and well adjusted for a loner dwarf hamster. We play every day together...she is soo cute.
I was sad that she wasnt going to have a sister but she seems really happy and I play wither her alot.
Sad her sister had an ear infection....another reason to HATE PETCO !
grr...

Bella isn't nocturnal at all. She takes lil naps throughout the day and nite but never really sits down and sleeps for a long period of time. She just always has been that way!

Well its been a while...

Glad your dwarf is OK and happy.

How often do you dream in color?? I have vivid color dreams about ten percent of the time; the rest I can't tell.

I guess I always dream in color....but i have especially colorful dreams when I take me all natural sleepng supplements...hehe
Yeah...well since then Stella has become very active frm around 930 at night till 730 in the morning (it varies widely) and she wakes up periodicly for snaking and a quick run on her wheel.
She greets me at her cage door!!! and when I open it she climb right up the bars out onto my hand :)
Such a cutie...im telling you I just eat her up!

Well good luck on that. If you hate Petco so much you should start shopping at Pets Mart. It's cheaper there and I always buy stuff there.

I have stoped shoping at petco...I do most of my shoping online at petsmart.com or else where...
But something good has come out of petco and that something good would be STELLA woo hoo
but still....no more shoping at petco for me
